Rafting on the Arkansas River, June 7, 2003

Contrary to what you might expect, the Arkansas River is not in Arkansas, but in Colorado. One Saturday in June, this intrepid group of seven RMItes - led by master rafter Bill Browning - set out to brave the stretch of the Arkansas River called "The Numbers," a series of class 4 rapids with a bit of class 5 thrown in just for fun. Here are some snapshots from our adventure:

This is June?! (Jamie at the top of Independence Pass).

The rafters are ready for anything. (L to R: Dave Vernon, Amber Kerr, Kate Parrot, Bill Browning, Chris Page, Andrew Kean, and Jamie Fergusson.)

Cowabunga, dudes! (L to R: Amber, Jamie, Andrew, Kevin [guide], Bill, Dave, Chris, and Kate.)

Not only did we survive, no one even fell in. (L to R: Andrew, Kevin [guide], Jamie, Amber, Bill, Chris, Kate, and Dave.)

On the way home, we stop at Independence Pass again (12,000 feet) to plan our next adventure. (L to R: Chris, Bill, Jamie, and Andrew.)

Photos taken by Jamie Fergusson, or actually (since Jamie appears in every picture!) taken by hapless volunteers recruited by Jamie Fergusson. Thanks Jamie!
