According to KernEDC, Kern County ranked number 6 in top 10 strongest farming and agribusiness regions in the U.S behind Madera and Merced of California.

The city of Bakersfield, at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, owes its rapid rise and much of its present prosperity to the development of the oil resources of Kern County. The oil industry in this section is immense, the fields being equalled in output only by those of Baku, Russia. One-eighth of the world’s petroleum comes from here.
