About Us

BEEPS is organized by undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds and interests. We are committed to connecting the EEP community with each other, and with resources related to EEP. We look forward to working with you!

Alina Halstenberg – President

Alina (she/her) is a third year studying Environmental Economics & Policy with an intended minor in Spanish. On campus, she works as a Climate Action and Resilience fellow in the Office of Sustainability, teaches a DeCal about Berkeley’s Clean Energy Campus Project, and enjoys dancing on Berkeley’s Kathak (classical Indian dance) team. Alina is passionate about raising environmental awareness, marine biodiversity conservation, and working on decarbonization strategies. She is excited to provide resources for current and prospective EEP students as President of BEEPS this year!

Victoria Chen – External Vice President


Victoria (she/her) is a senior double majoring in Environmental Economics and Policy & Society and Environment with a minor in CalTeach. Growing up in the Bay, her passion for the environment stems from spending time by the water and hiking. Outside of school, Victoria is on the Cal Sailing Team, enjoys working with kids, and spending time with friends. She is excited to bring new events and perspectives to the BEEPS community this year! 

Khushi Jain – Internal Vice President

Khushi (she/her) is a senior studying Environmental Economics & Policy and Data Science. On campus, she is involved in research at the Energy and Environment Policy Lab, programming with the South & Southwest Asian & North African (SSWANA) Initiative, and choreography for Nazakat, Berkeley’s Kathak (Indian classical dance) team. She is interested in using data science for complex tasks such as determining renewable energy incentives or valuing the social cost of carbon. She’s very excited to be on the BEEPS team this year!

Taylor Elich – Outreach Operations

Taylor (she/her/hers) is a second year studying EEP with an intended minor in Data Science. In addition to BEEPS, she is also involved with Berkeley Housing and Dining Sustainability, the ASUC Sustainability Commission, and a local redwood preservation company. She is passionate about environmental education, preservation of natural resources, and the intersection between economics and data and environmental efforts. She’s looking forward to welcoming new members to BEEPS and planning events that will give members resources and tools to make them feel confident and excited to be an EEP student!

Olivia Taylor-Gao – Secretary

Olivia Taylor-Gao (she/her/hers) is a second year studying EEP with intended minors in Data Science and Sustainable Business and Policy. Right now she is doing Research in Fisheries, a alumni fellow for the Berkeley Student Leadership Academy and a Academic Coordinator for the Berkeley Student Cooperative. On campus and outside of campus she has had internships with Berkeley Housing and Dining Sustainability, and with the Maritime Electrification company Echandia. Her passions include Entrepreneurship, Music and Career Advancement. She is interested in using the skillset attained from the major she make a positive impact on the world. She’s excited to make BEEPS the best it could be!


Alumni

Amy Chu

Amy (she/her/hers) is a third year studying EEP with intended minors in City Planning and Global Poverty and Practice. On campus, she is part of the Bay Area Environmentally Aware Consulting Network (BEACN). Her passions include using research to push for urban accessibility as well as sustainable and equitable development. She’s excited for BEEPS to be a great community for discussion!

Kayla Hidayat

Kayla is a third year student studying EEP with a minor in Public Policy. Outside of BEEPS, she works as a research assistant at the Center of Law, Energy, and Environment of the Berkeley Law School, and volunteers for the ASUC Sustainability Commission. She is interested in learning more about sustainability management and energy policy. She is looking forward to bringing the EEP community together!

Inès Robo

Ines is a junior studying EEP and Data Science. On campus, she’s part of a social sector consulting club, volunteers at the Berkeley Student Food Collective, and does research in UC Berkeley’s Agricultural and Resource Economics Department. Ines is specifically interested in food systems and the food service industry. She is excited to provide resources for current and prospective EEP students by getting BEEPS up and running!

Sarah Xu

Sarah (she/her/hers) graduated in 2021 with a major in Environmental Economics & Policy and with minors in Global Poverty and Practice and Asian American Studies. On campus, Sarah was involved with the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC), Students of Color Environmental Collective (SCEC), and Berkeley Mode United Nations (BMUN). Sarah is deeply curious about the future of international environmental policy.

Sabine Mahavni

Sabina (she/her/hers) graduated in 2021 with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy and with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. Outside of BEEPS, she worked as a Green Team Associate for the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC) and was the Student Lead on implementing the campus’s Single Use Plastic Elimination by 2030 commitment. Sabina is passionate about environmental justice and hopes to pursue a career in international environmental law.

Paige Griggs

Paige (she/her/hers ) graduated in 2021 with a double major in Environmental Economics & Policy and Conservation & Resource Studies. On campus, she was involved with Engineers Without Borders and assisted with research in the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department. She is interested in applying economics to water resource management, socioeconomic issues, and data science, and wants to pursue a graduate degree in environmental economics.

Ayan Sarkar

Ayan (he/him) graduated in 2024 with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy. Outside of BEEPS, he worked as an Economics Tutor at the Student Environmental Resource Center (SLC). Ayan hopes to pursue a graduation studies in Environmental Policy.
