Exam #4 Study Guide

For the 4th Exam you should be able to:
1.  Change expressions (that are not sentences) using the universal and existential quantifiers into sentences. (9.1-9.3)
2. Build a world where all the sentences (using quantifiers) in a short list are true (or false depending on instructions). (9.9, 9.11, 10.9, 10.22, 10.24-10.29)
3. Translate English sentences using quantified expressions into FOL and vice versa. (9.12, 9.16-9.18)
4. Understand vacuously true generalizations. (9.15)
5. Understand when to use Taut Con, FO Con, and Ana Con. (10.8)
6. Understand the basic shape axioms. (10.30)
7. Look at a world and tell whether expressions using the universal and existential quantifiers are 1) sentences, 2) evaluable, and 3) true or false.
8. Look at an expression that uses universal and existential quantifiers and say which variables are bound and which are free.
