Brian visits Africa
Brian visits Africa!

The Brain It seems extremely strange to me that people should obtain information about me without my knowing when it happens. Nonetheless, in what follows, I will summarize the information about myself that I don't mind giving out. If you read through some of this then send me an email message saying something as simple as, "I saw your page, and here is the address of my home page." (Turnabout is fair play, right?)
I graduated from the University of Alabama. It is located in Tuscaloosa, about 45 miles from where I grew up in Birmingham. I majored in Philosophyat Alabama. I was a graduate student in Philosophy at the University of California, Irvine. Irvine's mascot is the Anteater, which explains the picture to the right. (In a very weak sense of the word ' explains'.) I am interested in Philosophy of Language, Logic, and anything related to Frege. I also have a web page devoted to Wittgenstein. I lived on Balboa Island and met a cat named Carrot.  She has her own web page. Visit Carrot's Home Page for all the details. Carrot and I recently moved to Riverside! School
Lecture I teach Philosophy courses. If you are in my class and are here looking for class stuff, go to: http:/home.earthlink.net/~bwcarver/
If I had any free time I would be interested in artand astronomy. I would take more photographs and learn how to develop them.  You can see some of my photos of my trip to Africa here. I might even get a chance to keep up with a sports team, like the New York Giants . (Note: Images take you to different web sites from those in the text.)  Monet
Yankees My favorite American League team has been the Yankees for a long time. The New York Rangers have also long been my favorite hockey team.  Rangers
The Simpsons The Simpsons come on twice a day on my Fox affiliate. WOOHOO! That and Star Trek: Voyager are all I really care to see on television. I do enjoyStar Trek: The Next Generation , but I've seen all the episodes. For late night, David Lettermanis still better than all those other jokers.
Spiff I love cartoons. I guess I'm an overgrown kid or something, but I still love Dr. Seuss. Also, as twisted as it is, I am strangely amused by Ren and Stimpy . But, hey, if you ever watch the Animaniacs then you know how sophisticated cartoon humor can be. Face it, these jokes are for adults, because no kid gets them. Another thing supposedly for kids that rules is Bill Nye the Science Guy Pooh
Beautiful South
Patty Griffin
Shane MacGowan
Pogues
I am especially nuts about music. I love The Housemartins , a British band. When they broke up the members went different ways, and one of the results was The Beautiful South. (Another is Fat Boy Slim!) The Beautiful South are still recording and I've seen them in concert once. I'm also fanatical about The Pogues. Their former lead singer Shane MacGowan now has his own band,Shane MacGowan and The Popes .   After his departure, The Pogues put out two more albums, but I hear that now they have called it quits. I also like an even less known Scottish band called The Silencers. They put out three or so albums and I don't know what has happened since. I also really enjoy a band from my former college town called Pain. Go to Pain's web page and order their albums or you will regret it (perhaps without even knowing it) for the rest of your life! Lately I've gotten into Cuban music. Check out Buena Vista Social Club and Afro-Cuban All Stars to get warmed up.  I also really like Tori Amos , The Beastie Boys, Cake, Tracy Chapman, The Cowboy Junkies, Enya , The Violent Femmes and more!  the gourds

ESPN College football is the official religion of the state of Alabama. It is possible for anyone, anywhere to listen to broadcasts of Alabama football games via the internet by using free Real Audio software . It's really pretty cool to be able to get live radio broadcasts via the web. Check out www.audionet.com for live radio broadcasts of all sorts of things.
My favorite news is new Science and Technologystuff, and now there are a lot of good internet sources for news.  I get daily news via e-mail from InfoBeat. Also check out www.news.com and Reuters. I also like to try to keep up with my Alma Mater, so the Internet version of the Crimson White is excellent, for me anyway. Crimson White Internet Edition

Besides keeping up with the daily news there are a number of sites worth checking out every day for something new. Try: The Cool Site of the Day , the Cool Word of the Day , A.Word.A.Day, the Quotes of the Day, and finally Today in History

So now that you've increased your vocabulary and knowledge of history, you're ready for The Global Encyclopedia . Which is the only free encyclopedia in the world. Bartlett's Familiar Quotations may help you locate who said that thing you've always heard. And a Searchable Roget's Thesaurus , a Searchable Webster's Dictionary , and Strunk's Elements of Style are always helpful.

Now to tickle your funny bone check out: The Automatic Complaint-letter Generator You should try that twice! Then there is Paco's Funny Pages which is mostly funny things people pass around net. Then this is so funny you won't believe it really happened

I have tried to give you plenty of interesting links, but if you still haven't found what you're looking for, then search away with AltaVista, Lycos , or Google. And you've read all this way, and I'll have you know, that very few people have ever actually sent me their home page URL like I asked you to at the top of the page. Shame on you all.
