The Cal Libertarians present... Libertarian Author, Economist, and Professor of Law David Friedman "In Defense of Anarchy" Wednesday, March 18th at 7:00 P.M. in 206 Dwinelle Hall. Dr. Friedman will make the case for privatizing all functions of government, including the police, courts, and legislature. He will argue against democracy and for a polycentric distribution of power, in which autonomous individuals make their own "treaties." This form of anarchism is called "anarcho-capitalism" or "libertarian anarchism" (and is part of the broader individualist anarchist tradition). Dr. Friedman argues that it would be both more libertarian than any democratic society, and more stable in the long term. David Friedman is the author of _The Hidden Order_ and _The Machinery of Freedom_. Please bring your comments, questions, and disagreements. I expect there to be lively debate, since anarchism is not the official position of the Libertarian Party. For more information call Mako at (510) 549-0555 or e-mail callib@ocf.berkeley.edu.
