Collaborations

With Emeryville Unified School District:

Project 1: Science based books for Emeryville Elementary School Anna Yates

Through a series of small fundraisers and some private donations we have been able to purchase a classroom set (8 books) of the following titles for the Science Resource Center at the Anna Yates public elementary school in Emeryville.

  • Guess Whose Shadow?
  • Earthquakes: Earth's Mightiest Moments
  • My Life with the Wave
  • Flicker Flash
  • Energy Makes Things Happen
  • Day Light, Night Light: Where Light Comes From

Project 2: General Collaborations with the Emeryville Unified School District Science Teachers (Elementary and Secondary Schools)

The teachers have identified an acute need for a number of classroom supplies inlcuding (but not limited to):

  1. More functional laptops (8-12 x 4 classrooms).  These are used in conjunction with lessons (video tutorials, simulations, etc) and in experiments (data collection, processing, etc).
  2. Dedicated classroom "lab pro" set-ups (experimental data acquisition probe stations) - 8-12 x 4 classrooms, 220$ each.
  3. Science reference books - CRC, Science dictionaries, etc....

as well as the desire to have extra funds to sponsor activities such as class field trips and teacher professional development activities.

Chemists for Peace is currently discussing how we may help address these needs through either specific fundraising efforts and/or donating grant writing time. Current status available here.
