Character Attributes

There are 21 attributes describing a character. Seven attributes are
physical, seven are mental, and seven for the senses.
Mental attributes:
- Determination - will power.
- Intelligence - the ability to reason things through in a logical fashion.
- Intuition - the capacity to jump to conclusions with insufficient
information.
- Memory - a measure of the character's ability to learn and retain
information.
- Mental Health - the general mental health and ability to cope with stress.
- Mental Speed - speed of thinking.
- Wisdom - the ability to take into account how other circumstances will
affects things and determine the safest course of action.
Physical attributes:
- Comeliness - how attractive a person is. This may be obscured by
clothing, make up, dirt ...
- Dexterity - the ability to manipulate tools effectively.
- Health - the body's natural capacity to heal and cope with disease.
- Reflexes - speed in responding to an unpredictable physical situation.
- Speed - the rate at which the character responds to things and moves.
- Stamina - a measure of the body's endurance and fitness.
- Strength - how strong the character is; how much they can move and lift.
Senses:
- Balance - a character's natural sense of balance.
- Hearing - how well one hears.
- Sight - visual perception, which may be affected by visual problems such
as short-sightedness.
- Smell - the ability to notice and distinguish different smells.
- Taste - the ability to notice and distinguish different tastes.
- Temperature Sense - generally a tactile ability to sense temperature. In
some species this may be more evolved.
- Touch - tactile sense (in the tool-manipulating anatomy).
Balance may not be less than 30 for any character who is mobile. It is
recommened that characters do not reduce hearing or sight below 50. Existing
characters need to multiple attributes by 2/3; new characters will generate
attributes on 2d60+30 (could scale down by factor of 10 to 2d6+3).
Dexterity, reflexes, intelligence, intuition and wisdom all affect a large
number of a character's skills. The other physical and mental attributes have
important effects on a character's combat and mental capabilities. Wisdom
is for interpersonal skills and skills requiring a judgement call. Intuition
is used in skills requiring imagination and insight.
Memory and determination should have some influence on a character's learning
speed, and memory will affect how much information is retained.
Genetic Maximums:
Comeliness and senses may not be improved beyond their initial value (hence
the black box). Other attributes may be improved to their genetic maximum by
training.
Psychic equivalents:
Some physical and mental skills correspond (this is only relevant for
psychic combat, which needs to have the game mechanics developed):
- Dexterity and Intelligence
- Health and Mental Health
- Reflexes and Intuition
- Speed and Mental Speed
- Strength and Determination
Comeliness, stamina, wisdom and memory have no direct analogues.
