Welcome to CPISC!

(Critical Pacific Islands Studies Collective) at UC Berkeley

The Critical Pacific Islands Studies Collective (CPISC) at UC Berkeley brings together a diverse group of researchers to foster a growing network of Pacific Islanders and allies.

We aim to create educational and professional development opportunities, accessible research materials, and scholarly work based on the critical and equitable study of the Pacific.

CPISC conducts interdisciplinary research that bridges spaces within and external to academia and seek to understand relationships between territorial political status, militarization, environmental justice, Indigenous cultural preservation, colonialism, climate change, and further complex problems.

Our vision is to generate deeper, more holistic research conducted of, with, and for the Pacific, bolstered by a growing collective of Pacific Islander researchers and allies.
