Half

You know what I just realized? I stayed in Nor Cal for half my life. I spent half my life in Nor Cal. That’s a lot of time! Yea, I’m really bored. I think I should really get some snacks in the house for once. Or maybe I can eat some cereal. Anyways, writing at 1:45 in the morning is really non-productive, especially if I’m hungry, too. Man, I wish there was a bowl of soup right now. Oh yeah, some jerk honked at me today, presumably because I was in a lane where you can go straight OR right turn and the right turn-signal was green but it was also a red light. I was this close to losing it, and I was going to punch his engine hood, but I somehow managed to hold back, which is good. Because I also had milk in my backpack, which was slowly spoiling. Also, since I dropped the backpack on the ground, the milk squirted out a little bit. Had to empty my backpack. Then, I went to do some other shopping (don’t ask me why I didn’t drive to begin with), and it took me 17 minutes to drive one mile :-O. Wow, this was going to be about how I spent half my life in Nor Cal but turned out to be how I liked living in LA so far. Anyways, half my life is a lot of time to be living in one place. I don’t think I’ll miss it, though.

Orientation

Went to the graduate student orientation last Friday. It was alright. I thought they didn’t have enough time for us to do everything. They should cut down on the things we can do so that we’d have time. Like, they schedule 5 events in the same time slot. I mean, choices are good, but too many is sometimes bad. Anyways, that’s my thought.

Lehman Files for Bankruptcy; Merrill Is Sold – NYTimes.com

Lehman Files for Bankruptcy; Merrill Is Sold – NYTimes.com

I guess times are tough on everybody. But it seems like it’s only a big deal when rich people get laid off. I mean, you never hear news about steel plants in Pittsburgh being shutdown.

Righteous Kill and Elegy

My Dad and I went to watch Righteous Kill today. I thought it would be better than it was. It was still pretty good, but I did not guess the ending at all. I guess I should have seen it coming from a mile away, but didn’t. As for the actors’ performance, there’s really nothing you can say. I mean, it’s Al Pacino and Robert De Niro! I think we’re never going to see them together again in a picture. I just think something was lacking, though, like the script or the director somehow failed to support the big stars. Maybe I need to watch it again.

Although we went to watch A.M. Cinema ($6), we still had to be cheap and watch another film. I was thinking of Burn After Reading since that was one of the few films that fit the 2-film schedule that we haven’t seen (we already watched Bangkok Dangerous and Death Race last week). But then Dad suggested Elegy and I went on imdb to check. Since it seemed good, we went to watch that. Since Penélope Cruz was in the movie and I need to practice my Spanish, I think I would give the review in Spanish.

No sé qué ésos gentes pensado.

‘Total destruction’: At least 15 die in head-on Metrolink crash – Los Angeles Times

‘Total destruction’: At least 15 die in head-on Metrolink crash – Los Angeles Times

As if Hurricane Ike is not enough, now we have this. I spent most of today watching news on this after it occurred. It’s horrible, really, there’s no other words to describe this. I mean, this kind of thing never happens. A head-on collision on the Metrolink? Would have never thought it. It’s too bad really, this is going to give a bad name to rail, which is really my favorite form of transport. Well, I hope the death toll doesn’t rise anymore.

Be safe, everyone.
