Garret Christensen's (AKA The Onion) CDT Thru-Hike

Starting May 2, 2007, I'll be hiking the Continental Divide Trail.  I'm starting at the Mexican border near Columbus, New Mexico.  If all goes well I'll reach the Canadian border in Glacier National Park, Montana around August 10, and if all goes really well, I'll be back at the Mexican border (this time perhaps near Antelope Wells, NM) on November 16, at precisely three minutes past noon. (Yes it's supposed to be funny that I think I have any idea at all when these events will actually occurr.  My AT and PCT predictions were totally wrong.)

Whenever I get the opportunity, I'll visit a public library and send out an update.  If you'd like your name to be added to my list, send an e-mail to garretchristensen at yahoo dot com.  You can download my projected itinerary so that you can send fan-mail/hate-mail/Snickers bars to the places I'll be picking up mail drops.  I wrote a F.A.Q. based on my conversations with everyone over that past few months. You can read the occasional updates on my blog, or you can peruse my initial gear list below and, if you aren't a lightweight backpacker yourself, marvel at the fact that I am so anal that I cut the handle off my toothbrush, or if you are lightweight backpacker, you can mock me for carrying a pack that weighs over two pounds empty, a GPS unit, and anything other than AquaMira to treat my water.
