Computer Addiction Health Tips

When on the computer

* "Follow the 20/20 rule. Look away from the computer at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Do this every 20 minutes.

* Blink your eyes often. If you need a reminder, write Blink! on a sticky note and put it where you will see it while you work. [the eyes forget to blink as often when focusing on a monitor]

* Be sure your work station has adequate lighting.

* Eliminate glare. Glare can cause eye fatigue. Recognize and eliminate the sources of glare (sunlight through windows, reflections from shiny surfaces, and so on). Get an antiglare screen for your computer.

* Position yourself correctly. Your computer monitor should be from 4 to 8 inches below eye level and set at a 10- to 20-degree angle, it should be about 2 feet from your eyes" (Computers and Eye Strain).
