Kite Runner BookThe Kite Runner is a novel about two young Afghanistan boys who grow up together under very different circumstances. Amir is a wealthy Pashtun and Hasaan is the Hazara son of a live-in servant to Amir's family. Hasaan almost worships Amir, but because of Hasaan's Hazara ethnicity, young Amir doesn't truly consider Hasaan his friend. One night after Amir wins the winter Kite Race, Hasaan is molested by some childhood bullies who have a strong racism against Hazaras. Amir witnesses this horrifying act and does nothing. Amir is constantly haunted by his guilt that he pushes Hasaan and his father out of their home. Hasaan and his handicapped father move away to a small town in Afghanistan. Amir and Hasaan are further separated after the fall of the Afghanistan monarchyand the Soviet invasion. Amir immigrates to America with his father, and they struggle to integrate into American society. Even through Amir's adult life he is haunted by his betrayal, until he gets a callfrom an old family friend telling him that, "There is a way to be good again."
