Trees of San Francisco

The city of San Francisco has some great open data sets, including this one, which locates each street tree in the city. I mapped the trees using Carto, and highlighted a few of the more plentiful species (and my personal favorites). The map highlights a piece of the city that is rarely acknowledged or noticed. Here you can see the Sycamores lining Market Street and the Laurel Figs dotted around the neighborhoods. The Gingko trees are one of my favorites, which you can spot if you look for the bright green markers circled in yellow. Although only a few of the species have their own colors, I mapped all of the trees in the dataset. By clicking on the circle, you can learn a tree’s species, and if it has been recorded, when the tree was planted.
