This page is a small collection of flame mail I have received about my web page and the programs on it. This list is not complete but has nearly all flames I've received since 2000 or so, as well as many of the older ones. In addition to e-mail, I now include posts on my message board as well (but certainly not flames against me posted to ticalc.org's message boards, as there isn't nearly enough room here for all of those here). All of this information is provided for entertainment purposes only. My own comments about the messages are all written in orange.
Please note that while some of these messages claim programs I wrote have bugs in them, to the best of my knowledge, none of these is correct (with the exception of one report of a small problem that was fixed long before the flame was sent). I always ask for details from anyone who reports a bug in any of my programs, and if the user cooperates, I investigate it carefully. However, none of these flamers ever did so, so I couldn't really check them, but I suspect these problems don't exist since nobody who was willing to give any details ever reported them, even though the programs mentioned have usually been available for years and downloaded by many thousands of people.
This person had asked how to send Phoenix, and I said to use the Graph-Link software. The original message contained no suggestion that this person had already tried to use the Graph-Link software.
This almost seems like the sender wanted to make a parody of the other flames on this site. But then again maybe it is for real. It's hard for me to decide. The HTML code for bold and underline was in the original mail.
This is the thanks I got for trying to provide a polite response to the previous message. I told him why there are no text format programs, and I had hoped that we might reach a better understanding, but somehow it just didn't happen.
Yet another user who seems dissastisfied with my consulting fee schedule.
This is in response to my telling him that my consulting fee is $60. I only charge this if they ask a question which is already answered in my FAQ, the manual, or other readily available sources.
I have no idea why this person called me Dave.
This person had previously asked me for the source code to Platinum Edition, and I replied that it would be clear to anyone who had seen the program's web page.
I know this isn't as hostile as some of the older messages I have received, but it is the worst I have gotten recently. Even though the reasons for not distributing programs in the text format some people think they need to type it in are clearly explained in the FAQ on this site, I still tried to mail this person an explanation, but the mail bounced.
He originally asked me how to select weapons in the game; I answered it 9 days later, telling him he should read the manual. The manual being referred to is included with the main archive on my web page, ticalc.org, and other archive sites. The selection of weapons is also explained in the instruction page in the game.
It is interesting to note that this message just somehow happened to arrive only one day after the one I added below, in which my comments pointed out that I had recently been getting too little flame mail.
Even though this isn't quite in the same style as the other flames, and was posted on my message board instead of being e-mailed, I decided to include it since I haven't gotten a lot of "real" flame mail recently.
Strangely enough, this person actually asked to become a beta tester for my programs in July 2001.
Note: Even though this isn't completely a flame, I include it here just as I would anything else beginning with "hey stupid ass". Of course, the shop can be exited quite easily by pressing the EXIT key on the TI-85 or TI-86; on the TI-82 and TI-83+, where which key to use is less obvious, MODE, DEL, or CLEAR all work to make sure that anyone will get out on the first guess for the exit key.
There actually was a small collision detection problem in the game, however it would result in an error of at most 3 pixels, and was fixed more than a year before this message was written.
