Radio Interview: Today, at approximately 7:00 PM EST, Mark and Steve were interviewed for five to 10 minutes on The Edge, 102.1 FM, in Toronto. Some highlights: on the current state of popular music, both agreed that the climate is reverting to that of the 1950's where labels have no interest in nurturing long term success of bands, instead preferring to go for the quick buck. As an extension of that they discussed how they didn't get into music as a way to make money, rather, they did so becuase they enjoy it. Mark talked about working on the Wylde Rattz record and Velvet Goldmine soundtrack. He said that there wasn't even a script when he signed on, that it was just so that he could work with Ron Asheton. Finally, they talked about some memorable psychos that have bothered the band over the years.

Billboard Article: The August 22nd issue of Billboard has the following short article by Doug Reece:

Armed Response

After a year and a half concentrating on crafting and recording new songs, Mudhoney has come up with one of its tightest albums, Tomorrow Hit Today, which Reprise will release Sept. 22. Forgoing the idea of working again with collaborator Jack Endino, the act enlisted the help of Jim Dickinson, who co-produced the album with the band. "It was the first time we worked with someone who is actually a producer," says front man Mark Arm. "We've been really stubborn and paranoid to bring someone in who might not understand what we're all about, but the more we got to know Jim, the more we realized he would be a positive influence."

Arm is also hopeful that Tomorrow Hit Today signals the dissipation of Mudhoney's reputation as the band that grunge forgot. "The main purpose of this group has been to play the music we like. The spotlight has been taken off Seattle, and even the backlash that came after the spotlight died down, so I don't think people will be judging this record as coming from another Seattle band. The music industry is focused on something else now," he adds. "It's either kid pop bands, some sort of ska or swing revival, or this electronica thing."

Mudhoney begins opening dates for Pearl Jam Aug. 29 in Philadelphia (correction: August 28th).

Wednesday, July 29(Updated 7/30/98)
Tomorrow Hit Today Tracklisting: The order of the tracks, with running time in parentheses of the new album is as follows:

Talkin' Randy Tate's Spectre Blues is a hidden track that begins exactly two minutes after Beneath the Valley of the Underdog ends. The album will be in stores on September 22nd on cd, cassette and vinyl.

Monday, July 6
New Album News: In his e-mail newsletter 3.2, Jack Endino had the following to say about Tomorrow Hits Today:
Street date for the new Mudhoney record: Sept 22. Produced by Jim Dickinson, mixed by David Bianco. I have really high hopes for this one. Mudhoney finally got some music-biz-hot-shot-good-old-boys to record 'em, but INTERESTING ones, not flavor-of-the-month types. I just got (from Bob Whittaker - thanx, Bob!) a copy of the last Clawhammer record, also produced by Jim Dickinson, and I like it very much, and it sounds pretty cool. Expect this record to be Mudhoney's most "hi-fi" sounding record, production-wise, but with good songs; I've heard most of 'em at live shows the past year, so I know the potential. This record might take everyone by surprise... Of course, it could also vanish without a trace; after all, this is the music business we're talking about. I can't imagine a "hit single", for instance, although I thought they should have made a single out of "Crankcase Blues" from the last one. But no one ever listens to me...

Wednesday, July 1
Space...Rocks...: This weekend, July 4th and 5th, Bill Nye the Science Guy will air the NTV top 11 Video Countdown featuring Mudhoney's rendition of the show's theme song. Johnson has also landed opening slots on this summer's Tuatara and Mark Lanegan tours.

Thursday, April 23
Mark Talks About New Song: In today's edition of Addicted to Noise (www.addict.com), Mark had the following to say about the inspiration for Talkin' Randy Tate's Spectre Blues:

I was watching this local government channel, and they were showing this tape of an anti-choice rally in front of the House of Representatives in Washington (D.C.). And the whole time (former Republican Rep.) Randy Tate was sort-of hovering in the background. He's really pale and balding, and it looked like a fucking skull floating in the background while these people were talking. I sat there glued to the TV for like an hour and a half, horrified. And after I wrote the words to that I found out he's the new executive director for the Christian Coalition. It's very creepy.

Randy Tate was once an extremely conservative Congressman for the state of Washington. He lost his bid for re-election in 1996 to Rick White, in what is widely considered the ugliest campaign that the state has ever seen.

Tuesday, April 21

7" Available The new Mudhoney 7" featuring "Night of the Hunted" and "Brand New Face" has just been released on Super Electro Records (www.superelectro.com). The version of "Brand New Face" is different than the one that will appear on the album, if it is selected.

7" and Tour Info: According to Steve, the shows that have already been announced are the only confirmed ones. The tour idea was scrapped because "we've still got to mix the record." The date for the Terrastock Festival show is April 19th, and the date for the show in Portland is April 11th. Another show in northern California may be announced.

The new single will contain two songs from the recent session with Jim Dickenson: "Night of the Hunted" and "Brand New Face." "Brand New Face" will probably be on the new album, but if so, it will have a different mix. It "should be out in about a month."

Monday, March 9
Super Electro 7" in April: The following was found of the Super Electro Sound Recordings web page. The news must be relatively old, since they are now finished with recording Tomorrow Hits Today.

Mudhoney's currently in the studio with the legendary Jim Dickinson of Memphis, recording what's shaping up to be a very twisted record and listening to Jim's endless supply of stories about Bo Diddley, Alex Chilton and the Cramps, among others. Expect a Super Electro 7" in April, and the LP/cd in the Fall, on Reprise. Plan's are also underway for a west coast tour in April to coincide with the Terrastock festival. We might even be able to bring the WWC or the Kent 3 along with us...
