New Album: The, as yet, untitled new record will be out February 21 on Sub Pop. Mark has the following to say about it:

We recorded the following songs with Phil Ek at Avast II and mixed them with Phil at Avast (the original):
HARD-ON FOR WAR
IT IS US
EMPTY SHELLS
ON THE MOVE

The following songs were recorded with Johnny Sangster [of Steve Turner and His Bad Ideas fame] at Mushroom (in Vancouver):
I SAW THE LIGHT
THAT TRENCH YOU'RE DIGGING
THE RAG IS ON THE BOIL
LET'S DROP IN
BLINDSPOTS
ON THE MOVE
We will mix them with Johnny at Avast (1) later this month. Steve's house got broken into while we were recording in Canada. A few weeks later he got a new cell phone bill in the mail.

We recorded the following songs with Tucker Martine at Flora:
WHERE IS THE FUTURE?
IN SEARCH OF...
UNDER A BILLION SUNS
Instrumental (as yet untitled)
I LIKE TO MAKE NOISE AND BREAK THINGS (which was written for a compilation of children's songs on DeSoto Records)
We will mix these songs at the end of August.

A five piece horn section played on a number of songs. Craig Flory [who played on Since We've Become Translucent] wrote the stellar arrangements.

Christy McWilson and Amy Allison (daughter of Mose Allison) came in and sang back-up harmonies on a couple of songs.

Each Producer/Engineer is a blast to work with and each brings his own unique perspective and talents to the songs they've recorded. This, as yet untitled album, is going to be one hell of a motherfucker.

Also, Jonathon Poneman had the following to say to Billboard.com about the new record: "The stuff I've heard is amazing. It's more political than they have been. It's not overtly political, like protest songs, but it is great Mudhoney."

Tuesday, June 7
Recording Update: This past weekend, the band recorded four songs with Phil Ek at Ironwood Studios in Seattle. In a few weeks, they'll head bup to Vancouver, CAN for a session with Johnny Sangster at Mushroom Studios. They hope to finish the record a few weeks after that with a local session recorded by Tucker Martine, who worked on Steve's last record.
