Encore: When Tomorrow Hits, Here Comes Sickness
Notes: This is the second of two shows that Mudhoney plays today as part of Canadian Music Week, and they go on stage at 12:15am for this one. Believe it or not, for a 12:15am start time on a Saturday night in Canada, the crowd is a bit drunk and rowdy. The guys seem to feed off this and appear to have a great time.

6/30/18 "Burger Boogaloo" (Pleasure PIer Stage). Mosswood Park. Oakland, CA (30 min)
Supporting: DEVO, The Mummies, Traditional Fools

Notes: Mudhoney plays the first day of this two-day outdoor festival. Mark is playing a black Gretsch for a change from his standard silver one (Chris Cornell's reject guitar). He introduces 'Touch Me I'm Sick' with, "Thank you. Thank you very much. And now we would like to play for you our very first single, 'Touch Me I'm Crazy.'" Then, when they're done with their short set, he leaves the crowd with, "Thank you all very much. Have a great weekend. Get yourself booglarized," making a reference to the Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band song, "I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby."

8/9/18 "New Day Northwest". KING5 Studios. Seattle, WA (5 min)
Attendance: 4
Soundcheck: (Rock Bottom), Nerve Attack, Nerve Attack, Nerve Attack, (Rock Bottom)
Set: Nerve Attack
Notes: They appear on a television program that airs in Seattle, KING 5's New Day Northwest. They tape their appearnace around 10am, and the show is broadcast at 11am. After they play 'Nerve Attack,' Mark joins Megan Jasper (Sub Pop CEO) and Jonathan Poneman (Sub Pop co-founder) for an interview focusing on Sub Pop's 30th anniversary, and the SPF30 festival this coming weekend. Sportscaster Kenny Mayne is the other guest on this episode. During souncheck, Mark fools around with the main riff to UFO's 'Rock Bottom.' Later in the day, they go multimedia, and have an interview (conducted by Nils Bernstein (early Sub Pop) and Ed Fotheringham (Mudhoney album cover artist); originally it was supposed to be just Mark and Steve with Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt (Sub Pop co-founder)) at KEXP radio's gathering space. The interview is not broadcast on KEXP, but may be later.

8/11/18 "SPF30". (Alki Beach). Seattle, WA (70 min)
Attendance: 30,000
Also on Bill: Father John Misty, Jo Passed, Bully, Hot Snakes, Metz, LVL UP, Loma, Clipping, Beach House, Moaning, Kyle Craft, Wolf Parade, Shabazz Palaces, Caspar Babypants
Soundcheck: (Real Cool Time), (Rock Bottom)
Set: Suck You Dry, You Got it, I Like it Small, Hey Neanderfuck, Get into Yours, Judgment Rage..., No One Has, Let it Slide, Touch Me I'm Sick, By Her Own Hand, Nerve Attack, F.D.K., 1995, (The Farther I Go), The Farther I Go, I'm Now, One Bad Actor, Paranoid Core, The Only Son of the Widow from Nain
Encore: You Stupid Asshole, Hate the Police
Notes: Mudhoney plays 'One Bad Actor' for the first time. They headline the Harsh Realm Stage at SPF30 - Sub Pop's free 30th anniversary festival on Alki Beach in West Seattle. All the stages are temporary, and the Harsh Realm Stage (named for a made-up slang term now-Sub Pop CEO Megan Jasper used to fool the New York Times in 1992) is set up at Alki Ave SW and SW 57th Ave, facing South down Alki, with Puget Sound to stage right. Like at the previous Sub Pop festivals in 2008 and 2013, Mudhoney isn't playing the biggest stage at the festival, and it gets packed to the gills. They do a quick soundcheck to test levels a little before they go on, and Mark plays a little of The Stooges 'Real Cool Time,' and then continues to work on the main riff to UFO's 'Rock Bottom' like he did a few days back. Steve needs to switch out guitars after the first song, leading to the rest of the band goofing on him (Dan: "(Right) out of the box, Turner!"). Then, switches out guitars again after four more songs, going back to the first one ("I liked the other one better."). While this is happening, Mark chats up the crowd, referencing how the porta potties have ads that, if you take a selfie with one and post to social media, you can win a porta potty: "I hope you're making the most of the festival, which means taking a selfie with a porta potty and maybe winning one!" A shirtless older fellow gets up on a friend's shoulders right before 'Nerve Attack.' Mark must not be looking at the crowd at all until it's time to sing thee first verse, because as soon as he starts to sing, he sees the guy and starts laughing so hard he can't sing. He tries to get everyone's attention to stop the song and restart, but they're all in the zone and don't notice him. So, like a professional, he regroups and starts singing the first verse after this delay. He knows this shirtless guy, because at the end he says to him, "Thanks, Liam." They play 'One Bad Actor' with the first time, with Mark noting that it's released on a single that's available only at this festival. They finish their planned set with 'Nain,' say their thanks and start leaving the stage. But the crowd cheers loud enough for an encore that Mark regroups everyone, checks if they've got time to play a little longer, and then they figure out a couple songs to play, and bash them out.

With the release of Digital Garbage coming up (Sep 28), they play eight new songs, including four for the first time - 'Prosperity Gospel,' 'Kill Yourself Live,' 'Oh Yeah,' and '21st Century Pharisees.' Steve is wearing a band shirt for Vancouver's own D.O.A. After playing eight new songs in the main set, they take it back to circa 1990 for an all punk covers encore.

9/28/18 Dante's. Portland, OR (85 min)
Attendance: 500
Supported By: The Scientists, Eat Skull

Encore: Who You Drivin' Now?, 1995, Here Comes Sickness
Notes: Mudhoney releases their album Digital Garbage today. Mark repeatedly talks about how stoked they are to be playing with Australia's The Scientists (which the've done a few times before). He starts the show with, "There was a time when we never thought we'd see The Scientists ... well, except for Guy." Guy is from Perth, like the Scientists, and moved to Sydney, like the Scientists. After 'No One Has,' they all happen to grab their towel to wipe their sweat, causing Mark to remark, "It's band towel time!" He introduces 'Hey Neanderfuck,' with, "This is a song called, 'Hey Neanderfuck.' It's about neanderfucks." Then, he introduces '21st Century Pharisees' with, "We've got a record that came out today - so I'm pimping us a little bit. [Ed. note: you wouldn't expect 'pimping' to be part of Mark's working vocabulary.] And this song is the first song on side 2 of the new album! ... Shit, Dan hasn't listened to side 2 yet, so we could be fucked here." As they close, Mark talks up the Scientists again: "Thank you! Thanks again to the motherfucking Scientists! I don't actually know if they fuck their mothers, but let's just assume they have."

9/29/18 The Neptune Theatre. Seattle, WA (85 min)

Encore: Who You Drivin' Now?, 1995, Here Comes Sickness
Notes: Mark makes several references to how much they enjoy playing with The Scientists (who Mudhoney consider to be influential to the "Mudhoney sound"), as well as with the Tom Price Desert Classic. Not much talking otherwise - they stand and deliver a tight, driving set.

Notes: Mudhoney plays the last night of this four-day festival, which takes place in venues around Utrecht. 'Next Mass Extinction' (not yet played live!) is originally on the setlist after 'F.D.K.,' but they cross it off. With it being a festival gig with a finite set time, they do not play an encore.

11/12/18 Vera. Groningen, The Netherlands
Supported By: Please the Trees
Set: Prosperity Gospel, I Like it Small, You Got it, Nerve Attack, The Farther I Go, Judgment Rage..., No One Has, Kill Yourself Live, Touch Me I'm Sick, If I Think, Hey Neanderfuck, Suck You Dry, Please Mr. Gunman, 1995, F.D.K., Oh Yeah, I'm Now, Paranoid Core, One Bad Actor, The Only Son of the Widow from Nain, 21st Century Pharisees
Encore: Here Comes Sickness, Who You Drivin' Now?, The Money will Roll..., Hate the Police
Notes: They debut 'Please Mr. Gunman.' Guy breaks a bass string on '1995,' and that's hard to do! He finishes out the song, and after, while he waits for his bass to be fixed, he makes some experimental space sounds on his Korg. Mark introduces a song as, "This is a song from our new album. It's called Change of Directions. Our albums are called Change of Directions 1, Change of Directions 2, Change of Directions 3 and Change of Directions." Mark tells the crowd several times how much they like the venue Vera, and how lucky the people in Groningen are.

Notes: They play Digital Garbage outtake (and song from the European tour single) 'Vortex of Lies' for the first time. 'Here Comes Sickness' makes a rare appearance as an opener (not since 2012), and that's just the first song in a 29-song performance - it's a long show.

Notes: They play a cover of Leather Nun's 'Ensam I Natt' (Swedish for 'alone tonight') live for the first time. They recorded it during the Digital Garbage sessions and released in on their European Tour 45. Scheduled opener Please the Trees got into a car accident and couldn't make the show, so 1800 SECONDS makes its debut as a last-minute replacement. The band is Mark on drums, Guy on synthesizer, and Erik Drost (tech for the tour, and member of the Legendary Pink Dots) on (Steve's) guitar. They do a 30-minute (or...1,800 second) improvised set.

Notes: They start the gig with Dan coming to the front, welcoming the crowd, and introducing the band to the stage. That's the first time he's done that. It's a rambunctious Saturday night crowd, with a mosh pit in the front. The band feeds off the crowd's energy. At one point, Guy is hit in the feet with a missile thrown from the crowd. His surprise turns to laughter when he realizes that the object is a broken paair of glasses.
