Tourney: Dr. Seuss/Cindy Lou Who Host: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Date: Nov. 18-19 Reporting: Su Kim (Illinois) Here are the final results from the 1994 University of Illinois 5th Annual Dr. Seuss Memorial "Cindy Lou Who" Tournament. Just had to say that one last time. TEAM W L TPTS LOSSES Chicago Chrissy 16 1 5,195 Vandy A by 65 pts Chicago Jack 14 3 4,935 IL Empire, Chicago Chrissy, IA Vanderbilt A 14 3 4,035 Chicago Jack, WI, IL Empire Minnesota A 13 4 4,220 Illinois Empire 12 5 4,350 MI Wolverines 11 6 3,120 Wisconsin 11 6 3,000 Illinois Alliance 9 8 3,055 Western Michigan 8 9 3,125 Parkland 8 9 3,000 Vanderbilt B 8 9 2,825 Chicago Janet 6 11 2,610 Minnesota B 6 11 2,135 Michigan Blue 5 12 1,985 Illinois Jabba 4 13 2,110 Illinois Wookie 4 13 1,980 Iowa State Ogotai 3 14 2,325 Northwestern 1 16 1,515 It was a bit of a strange tournament, there were some matches whose outcomes I would never have predicted. That may have been due to the questions; they might not have been as uniform and ACF'ish as I had hoped for. Peter Freeman's team, Chicago Chrissy Snow did extremely well, as did Peter. Stats will have to be after Thanksgiving as I am leaving in a bit to go home, but the last time I checked, he was somewhere in the 7's for adjusted average. Peter's supporting cast was also very good, I'm not sure if they are first years or not, but it looks like Chicago has talent for the future. ALL-STARS (decided by voting with stats including round 16 available) Gourab Bhattacharjee, Vanderbilt A David Frazee, Michigan Wolverines Ben Weiss, Minnesota A John Sheahan, Chicago Jack Tripper Peter Freeman, Chicago Chrissy Snow-MVP I hope all of you like your books and read them this Christmas. :) DAMON E. SHIPE MEMORIAL AWARD Sexiest Man: John Edwards, Chicago Jack (2 years running!) Sexiest Woman: Randy Buehler, Minnesota A (beating me out) As I mentioned before, the one thing that I can with a completely clear conscience is that the schedule was very well followed. I had set 40 minute rounds, but I had some great moderators who were done before with no problem. 7 rounds Friday night, 6 Saturday morning (5 were scheduled, but we were far enough ahead to do an extra), and 6 after lunch. There were glitches with keeping up to date standings (my own fault completely, I was a little unclear on the concept, or at least how to do it the most efficiently), and player stats. The one thing I've learned about questions, is that I might be a fine question writer, not great, but not terrible, but editing is another ballgame. A hint to all future tournament directors, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ALONE!! It may be hazardous to your health. Editing 19 rounds by yourself is a difficult task and I think fatigue more than anything led to some of those really bad questions slipping by. Overall I think the tournament went pretty well; it was the largest tournament in Illinois history, a far cry from our beloved LoveFest of Spring, '93. I hope to see the everyone, and more next year at Seuss, name yet to be decided.
