Today, the 3rd Annual Big Red Royal Rumble took place in beautiful Ithaca. The field ended up being eleven teams from nine different schools (Pitt-3x, NYU, Columbia, Dartmouth, Princeton, Williams, MIT, Randolph-Macon, Cornell [inexperienced players]). Columbia, led by Bill Atkinson defeated Jason Sugg and MIT 200-125 in the final. Semifinalists were Princeton and Williams (a two man team!). (Surprisingly the Cornell team--a first year freshman, a first year sophomore, and a second year sophomore with one previous tournament's experience--finished a strong fifth) Shawn Pickrell of Randolph-Macon finished as the top individual scorer followed by Matt Lubin(?) of Dartmouth, Ted from Williams, Bill Atkinson from Columbia, Jeff Stewart of Princeton, and Jason Sugg-MIT. Princeton won the award for the best tactile bonus, giving teams thirty seconds to identify three pouches of spices (ginger, allspice, and cardamon). Full listings of individual statistics will follow eventually. ---Kenny Peskin Co-President Cornell Academic Quiz Organization
