I promise to compile full results ASAP and get them out, but to let
everyone know what happened:
9 teams came for the Route 66 Classic II: The Wrath of Dan Beshear.
Loose Cannons, a masters' team. played with results against them not
counting towards the final standings. The other eight teams were:
1. Texas A&M 7-0
2. Memphis 6-1
3. Wichita State A 5-2
4. Arkansas 3-4
Oklahoma "Presbyterian" 3-4
Oklahoma "Lutheran" 3-4
7. Wichita State B 1-6
8. Oklahoma Baptist 0-7
Loose Cannons went 6-2, losing to Memphis and Oklahoma Lutheran.
The two most anticipated matches (well, for me, anyways) were
fortuitously scheduled for the last round. Unfortunately, neither
turned out as exciting as they could have been: Texas A&M bolted to a
big early lead on Memphis and cruised home, while in the OU
Lutheran-OU Presbyerian matchup, the mild-mannered Louis Gill (a
last-minute roster addition to keep the OU third team from being
mauled) "went medieval," as one observer put it, grabbing 11 tossups
to lead the Presbyterian squad in a walk.
We didn't have all-star awards, per se, but the top 6 scorers were:
1. Seth Kendall (Memphis)
2. Chris Goheen (Loose Cannons)
3. Louis Gill (OU Presbyterian)
4. Randy (sorry, don't know your last name) (Texas A&M)
5. Dargan Ware (Arkansas)
6. Stephen Gill (OU Lutheran)
Kudos to Texas A&M for the win and to Memphis for a valiant effort. A
special thanks to the very brave Seth Kendall and Dargan Ware, who
came and played without teammates. (No, there are no quiz bowl
addicts.) Special mention also to Oklahoma Baptist, playing in their
first ACF tournament and who were better than their record indicated.
