Prizes The BEST PACKET award went to DEATHTONGUE (Jesse, Jeremy, Stan). Their trophy was a Hot Wheels Action Pack featuring the Mars Pathfinder. I thought competition for this prize was quite stiff with several strong contenders. The BEST PACKET WITH A THEME award was partly divided. Loaves of raisin bread went to all three teams that wrote packets with a recognizable theme: BYU A, PRISONERS OF QUIZ BOWL, and KAUFMAN/MANDEL/NEEL. The coveted giant ground sloth eraser, however, was bestowed on PRISONERS OF QUIZ BOWL (Patrick, Oz, Howard) in special recognition of their packet. The various BEST QUESTION awards were not given since prize judge R. Hentzel claimed he needed more time to consider. Everyone should bombard R. with email protesting this dereliction of duty. The MOST IMPLAUSIBLE INCORRECT ANSWER award went to DAVE SIMS of BYU A. His answer was "OJ Simpson defense team" while the correct answer was "junior Senators." His prize consisted of shrimp chips, a bottle of Borgnine's Coffee Soda, and Vienna sausages. The MAN WHO SEEMS TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS award went to me, RICHARD MASON. Although I did turn in a strong tournament performance, it is somewhat doubtful that I was the tournament MVP in any objective sense. Prize judge Willie Chen may have received a skewed impression while moderating my team's match on David Farris' packet, a packet which was something of a Christmas gift as far as I was concerned. My prize was a jigsaw puzzle. The ROCKET SCIENCE award for correctly predicting the team who would finish in fifth place went to BYU A. They received special rocket scientist pencils. The prize for BEST PRIZE went to MARIBETH SWIATEK. She received a set of fine art refrigerator magnets. Thanks to all the prize sponsors and to all the participants for making Quesadilla 1 a success. p.s. I don't have any information on the trash results. Ask Earl Cahill.
