The almost-annual Missouri State Quiz Bowl Championship was held on the
campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia on Saturday, April 10,
1999.
Following is a vague recollection of the events:
 
Competing were:	3 teams from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU)
 		2 teams from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC)
		2 teams from the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR)
and...
		1 team  from Washington University-St. Louis (WUSTL)
		(not a full squad - they sent a team to NAQT ICT)
 
Format was three periods of 7 questions each, 1st and 3rd periods NAQT
questions, 2nd period from X Bowl.

After a single round-robin, standings were
approximately as follows:
		UMKCa 7-0
 		WUSTL 6-1
 		MUa   5-2
 		UMRb  4-3
 		UMRa  3-4
 		UMKCb 2-5
 		MUb   1-6
 		MUa   0-7 (a tournament director's dream - no ties!)
 
The top four teams from the round-robin competed in a double-elimination
final with MUa defeating WUSTL and UMKCa topping UMRb.  WUSTL knocked
out
UMRb while MUa slowed UMKCa.  UMKCa knocked out WUSTL setting up a
MUa-UMKCa final.  UMKCa won game one of the finals on the last question
(all of MUa's losses were on the last question or in overtime), but MUa
came back and won the deciding game to take the title.

Winning team members: Scott Brinker, Conan Dewitt, Emily Orr, Eric
Watkins

Thanks to UMR's Ben Lee for being the ONLY full timemoderator at the
tournament.  Special thanks also go out to UMKC's Amit Dhawan for
getting
the questions together.  Congratulations go out to MUa's Eric Watkins
for
winning the individual shootout.  Jeers go to UMKCa for getting lost in
Columbia and showing up 40 minutes late.  Fortunately for them, they had
the questions.
