Date: Fri, 6 Nov 1998 15:56:14 -0500 Subject: QB: RESULTS: TRASH Mid-Atlantic Regionals From: jdinan@juno.com (James J Dinan) 18 teams converged on the ICC building at Georgetown University today for the Second Annual TRASH Mid-Atlantic Regional. And after all the carnage and mock bloodshed, This Is SportsCenter came out on top, defeated PENNatrators in the playoff final. For the victory, This Is SportsCenter received a travel case created by Exxon, which included a Tiger Tail, a bag of coffee made exclusively for Exxon (frightening isn't it), two cups, one cupholder, and some maps. As runner-up, PENNatrators received a bag of Blue-and-White Penn State glazed popcorn, as well as a tub of PSU potato chips. Due to the incompleteness of the scoresheets (i.e. - lack of scoresheets for certain games), there will be no individual or team stats posted. However, I can give you this much... The 18 teams were separated into two brackets of nine teams each, and each bracket played a full round-robin. After the round-robin, the top three teams in Division A played the top three teams in Division B in a three-game round-robin (all games A vs. B). Same went for the middle three teams in each division. Due to a lack of moderators and buzzer systems, the round-robin for the bottom three teams in each division was done differently. The top three teams in Division A were: This is SportsCenter, Challengers of the Unknown, and the Foundation for Law and Government. The top three teams in Division B were: UMBC Justice League of America (only team to go undefeated in the first round-robin), PENNatrators, and Georgetown A (winning a tie-breaker against Open Up and Say Buzz!!) Other teams competing included: Division A: Penn St. Shaft, PENNatrated, Original Yellow Jacket Trivia and Drinking Club, Radioactive Samurai Slugs, Busta Kappa Kappa, A Lotta Nothin Nothin Division B: Open Up and Say Buzz!!, GW Mobile Armor Specialized Mask, The Triple Threat, Roanoke Love Triangle, Swarthmore, A Little Somethin Somethin Scoring was done via the modified Continental Basketball Association scoring system, which awarded 3 points for a win, 2 points for a tie, 1 point for a half-won, and 1/2 point for a half tied. Special thanks goes to: Georgetown University for providing the facilities and scoresheets. Rick Grimes, Jason Block, Willie Keller, Fred Bush, Josh Miller, and the other "celebrity" moderators. All the players who made the event a day to remember Don't forget, DO NOT TALK ABOUT SPECIFIC QUESTIONS until after the conclusion of the TRASH Southwest Regional next Sunday nite (11/14). This includes distribution, categories, etc. If you want to talk about any of the above subjects, e-mail me or the other TRASH editors. James Dinan jdinan@juno.com
