I know that everyone has been in breathless anticipation for the results of the 1999 CWRU Buzz-a-Trois 1-On-1-On-1 Trash Singles Tournament. Unfortunately, I've had a few delays, including a busted fiber-optic cable in my room, a political philosophy paper, and bleacher seats at the Jake last night. Well, what was intended to be part incentive to come to the Celebrity Shoot and part massive ego-stroking in writing an entire tournament myself has come and gone, clocking in at about 6 1/2 hours, including dinner, for anyone curious on how the experimental format went. The questions are now available for sale, trade(trash or academic, even hardcore incest-inciting, et cetera, et cetera), or any other form of transaction imaginable. It will get you 170 seed questions + 10 rounds of 27 tossups + assorted tiebreakers. Just remember, TRASH Regionals are coming up soon, and you want the practice. First off, thanks to outside readers such as Nicholas Rothfuss and Brian Saxton. Thanks also to Craig Barker, who read in my room a couple of times after playing on rounds, freeing me to set up the trios for the next round with reasonable speed, and to anyone else who did the same and gave some of the regular moderators a break. Thanks also to Mike Burger who gave me a few logistical pointers. To recap the exciting finals. Entering the first game, Greg Sorenson had zero losses, Dwight Kidder had one, and Craig Barker had two, in the triple-elimination format. I have conflicting reports on who won a couple of the games, so I'm going with majority vote among my sources. My apologies if I make a few mistakes. Game 1: Dwight wins, sending The Craig the way of the Rick and the Mike O'Malley Show (oops, a little inside QB-chatroom humor). Dwight and Greg are now tied at one loss. Game 2: Greg wins by a small margin. Dwight now has two losses. Game 3: Greg wins. Game, set, match. You can stick a fork in Dwight, he's done. (R.I.P. Gorilla Monsoon) A bunch of prizes were tossed out at the end. I don't recall who got what, but some of them were: a David Lee Roth book (by him, I believe), a book of Negro League baseball postcards, Omar Vizquel Salsa (I think it was Omar and I think it was salsa), boxes of Flutie Flakes, a WWF Trivia Game, and a six-pack of Miilwaukee's Best NA, among other horrendous awards. Here are the final standing. The number in parentheses is the inital placement after the seeding round. Ties among individuals eliminated at the same point were broken by virtue of initial seeding. I don't have last names on everyone, and if anyone wants to fill in blanks, fell free. If I screwed up, please correct me. 1: Greg Sorenson(1) 2: Dwight Kidder(4) 3: Craig Barker(6) 4.
