Comment: He posts the powerpoints online. I went to probably less than five lectures out of the entire semester and still managed an A- just by reading the textbook and his powerpoints. His review sessions are fairly helpful as he helps you tie in many concepts together. Very science based class. Fairly funny guy though the lectures I did go to were not too helpful and were quite boring. Exams are really straightforward and labs are easy to do. No homework in this class either.

Comment: Overall a pretty good class. It is very science orientated so if that's not your thing I would probably avoid this class. The midterm was not easy although it was curved and weekly labs are fairly straightforward and GSI's are helpful. The professor was very knowledgeable and engaging.

Comment: Lectures were well organized and presented. They're all in powerpoint form, so you don't really have to show up to lecture. Exams are very fair and all material is covered in lecture. Computer lab assignments aren't too bad. It's a good class to take if you're interested in earth systems.

Comment: Very organized, straight forward, only tests on lecture slides. Easy computer lab reports that walk you through every step. Chaing is funny but a bit nerdy and successfully makes the class interesting.

Comment: He's clear, patient, methodical and an expert in this field, but if you've never taken physics or calculus, he warns you, you should not take the class. If you insist, he'll not stop you, but be prepared to be at the bottom of the curve. No participation or extra credit to help boost your grade. For exams, you know the material, or you don't.

Comment: Great class, mostly conceptual and not too mathematically challenging, yet you gain a basic understanding of how climate works and the way climate change occurs. Professor has reasonable expectations and the workload isn't bad - only 3 HWs (one can be late) and 1 midterm.

Comment: Great lectures, very approachable in office hours and fair exams. I thought he presented the science part of the class much better than Sayre's presentation of the society part.

Comment: Great enthusiasm, great sense of humour, really made a grim subject... Not so grim. Lectures were excellent.

Comment: The exams didn't reflect what was in lecture or the reader. He makes global warming seem very simple during the lectures and office hours, but the exams require in-depth analysis that was not taught to his students. This was demonstrated by the extremely low means on the exams.
