Comment: First off, I like Professor Nader. She is a little scary, but she is really amusing and strongly encourages activism all the time. Unfortunately I think she's getting a little old to be a very effective teacher. I found lectures to be almost useless. The only assignments were a bunch of readings, which for some people works great. For those of you that have a learning style similar to mine, however, it may not be the best. I am not good at doing almost everything independently and just reading. That being said, to pass the class all you really have to do is study the readings, because the whole grade is your two exams and knowing the reading material well = easy good grades

Comment: This is an awesome class! Nader really encourages students to think critically about energy issues. The readings were interesting and eye opening and exams were extremely fair, she gives you a review sheet for both tests. There were no assignments, except to read. Would definitely recommend taking this class.

Comment: So, It is a very interesting class, and Professor Nader has a very clear bias and opinion. But at the end of the day the reading is really interesting ( most of it at least) and there is only one midterm and the final, and if you do better on the final then the midterm then you get the final grade. Notes are hard to take cause she is all over the place sometimes, but if you just listen and read you'll do fine

Comment: One of the most interesting classes I've taken at Cal. Your grade depends 25% on a midterm, and 75% on your final (final counts for 100% if you do better than the midterm). In terms of work, there are no other assignments besides the readings (which are actually extremely interesting) Nader's class will really change the way you see the world. Take this class with her if you ever get the opportunity.

Comment: Nader is a pretty good lecturer with interesting topics. She is passionate about what she teaches. She tells you the topics that will be on the midterms and final.

Comment: Laura Nader is an amazingly brilliant person. This class literally changed my outlook on life. The first few weeks of class, even the first two months, are confusing but don't let this discourage you!! Everyone in this class has a moment where it all clicks: she's not just telling you random stories, she's breaking down the way your learning has been standardized and is implanting seeds, allowing for genuine learning, that AH-HA! moment. Keep up with the tons of readings (they're very interesting, but loooong), and you'll be fine and really enjoy the class. Sections are optional. I never went to sections and got an A.

Comment: The best class I have taken so far in my academic career - it totally allowed me to re-evaluate how I see the world and gave me tools to understand it. Laura Nader is one of the best professors on this campus, and although she might be a little unconventional, it is specifically her stand against convention that serves as a symbol for what you will learn in this course.

Comment: This course has a tremendous amount of reading but is manageable. Lectures are very interesting and she keeps things going. I def rec her for an upper div course. This is one of the most interesting anthro classes by far.

Comment: Nader is an amazing professor and has so many amazing insights that I have not thought about before in relationship to law IN society. I'd recommend this class to anyone, even if you're not very interested in law since it taught me so many things that are relevant, including always trying to question the status quo as well as knowing more about our law system. The class itself was not hard as long as you went to lectures and did the readings. She's also a great advocate for undergrads and very supportive, so try talking to her in office hours (I wish I did that more). Overall, there was just a midterm and a final for the class, mostly short answers/ essays. Highly recommended!
