Comment: Professor Wade is very passionate when it comes to music in Japan. She practically memorized her entire book so make sure you have your facts right. Her assignments were not that difficult just make sure you use her book as a reference. She basically tells you what will be on the exam during the review so make sure you go to class. Her review sessions are extremely helpful. She is very helpful and willing to help student with improving in her course. She is a great professor. Class can be a bit repetitive and dull at times but it if you are interested in music of Japan then this is class you should take. You will learn a lot!

Comment: Professor Wade was very passionate about her material, but her teaching was unorganized and lacked any kind of system. She rambled about concepts from her textbook (which she had written herself and had a similar rambling style of teaching) and never used powerpoint or even notes to lecture. Make sure you check the syllabus for assignments and complete them. They aren't hard, but there are many of them and they are simply busy-work projects that reminded me of high school homework. Exams aren't too difficult as long as you know the material in her textbook and reader; however, Professor Wade grades on a very strange method of grading since she knows that students who have background in the Japanese language and culture have an advantage on her tests. The only redeeming factor of this class is that you are given the opportunity to learn the koto (make sure you attend section for that) and Shoko, the instructor, is AWESOME!
