Comment: In this class you just listen to professors talk about their research. Homework was just answering a few questions about the research presented the previous week. There was a poster project at the end. Many people sleep through this class or skip it entirely.

Comment: Hammond was a sweet lady, young and charismatic. nearly didnt pass this class because I forgot to turn in some stuff, but she graciously took the assignments thank god. took the time to find the presenters for all the seminars and they were usually very helpful in presenting their fields of research and career paths. overall a nice class.

Comment: This class is so boring, and should never be taken unless mandatory. It's easy, and sometimes the speakers are interesting, but most of the time what they say goes in one ear and out the other. It's also very easy to skip and just have friends hand in your homework (that proves your attendance) for you.

Comment: Professor Hammond did a good job assembling a diverse range of speakers for this class. There was truly something for everyone. The poster presentations gave us a unique opportunity to tour a lab that interested us. The work load was reasonable for a 1-unit seminar.

Comment: In this class, professors come and lecture about their research. For someone like me who loves chemistry it was amazing! Some lecturers were better speakers than others but the material was super interesting and I got a much better sense of how research works, the different fields of chemistry, and types of research I would be interested in. Some people talked during the presentations which was very rude. Professor Hammond offers brown bag lunches. You must go in at least once in the year and talk casually with her and your fellow students for an hour while eating cookies. I went multiple times since it was such a great experience. How many chances do you get to eat lunch with your professor and a few other students? At the end of the semester you tour a lab and write a poster about some grad students' research. It was really cool to get the perspective of the grad students and see some of the very cool things they were doing. Overall a class you must take ( literally) and should make the most of it if you are interested in chemistry/chem bio.

Comment: Needless to say, C96 was just a seminar, but I really liked listening to the guest lecturers talk about their research. Hammond was very sweet and approachable, and she definitely tried to make the class as interesting as possible.

Comment: Easy class. You just have to turn in a short written assignment every week answering a question given by the guest speaker. It's pass/no pass so don't stress. Some of the speakers were very interesting but others were boring and dull..it depends.

Comment: Good lecturers, but the professor was not very enthusiastic. I think she's a new professor. No exams, assignments were just answering some questions every week.

Comment: This is a required freshman seminar for College of Chemistry students. It comprises of weekly talks given by different researchers. In order to take attendance, a question is asked sometime in the middle of every lecture and the anaswer is due back the week after. While some people ask friends for the qeustions and give the questions to other friends to turn in and never show up at the seminar, some of the talks are rather interesting and can give an insight into what you might want to do with your chemistry degree after you graduate. There is also a group poster project at the end of the semester where you have to report on a researcher's project of your choice.

Comment: This class can be boring, but it's just a seminar and the questions you have to do to prove you were there aren't difficult. If you miss a day, you can just get questions/answers from a friend.

Comment: Hammond is an excellent professor. I learned so much in this class, and would recommend it to anyone who liked ochem better than Bio 1A and would prefer something more concept-based than strictly memorization. I tried very hard in this class and even though I got around a C on the first midterm, I ended up with an A in the class. I loved Hammond's clear lecture style, use of the chalk boards, and slides. My gsi, Jim, was awesome too, and always answered all questions asked. Loved how there were only 40 people in the class compared to the 400 in MCB 102!

Comment: most midterms are reasonable, just need to study the lecture well and get them down to your brain, cause exam time is pretty short. But the final is unreasonably hard.......

Comment: Professor Hammond is easily the most meticulous professor I have ever met. Her Powerpoints are informative, and she doesn't overuse them, preferring to teach from the board when needed. Her lectures are dense, but it is obvious that she has spent quite a bit of time preparing. Her demeanor could be more warm, but she is very professional. She provides countless opportunities to learn (extensive office hours that you really should attend) and it is obvious that she cares immensely about her students' learning experience. Do your homework early, and watch out for the exams---they mostly consist of problems you have learned how to do, but have never seen explicitly worked out in class. Material becomes significantly more difficult after the first midterm.
