Comment: Dreger co-taught this class with Rector, and it was his first time teaching this course. Dreger and Rector were so yin and yang; I felt Dreger honestly wanted to help the students, but this may not have been his strongest subject and in many portions he himself was learning from Rector. Rector seemed to be the master of this subject, but disinterested in making an honest attempt to share his wealth of knowledge unless Dreger formulated questions about material that was too unclear for the rest of us to keep awake. I'll be honest, Dreger's powerpoints need work. The main thing that makes his presentation style unclear is it's equation heavy, there's no time to copy the information, and the slides aren't always up before hand. If he was a clear presenter this would be fine, but too many times variables pop up that either aren't defined, were defined on a slide he skipped over, or are supposed to be obvious. The net result is that I felt like I was staring at equations but had no idea what they physically represent. That said, Dreger is a very nice guy and I would definitely talk earthquakes with him. This class would have been significantly worse without him around.

Comment: Not a good lecturer, especially compared to Michael Manga. He knows a lot about his field but he is difficult to pay attention to.

Comment: Doug's lectures were very dull and dry, while Michael's were filled with more energy. Both are great professors and are very helpful. Labs are tedious at times and assignments can take a while. 1 field trip required. Not a hard class since they give you exams ahead of time

Comment: His poor presenting skills make him hard to hear or pay attention to. Aside from that, he's extremely helpful and approachable.

Comment: Dreger isn't the most exciting lecturer, but he clearly knows his stuff and wants to help students out. The exams were very fair (Dreger and Manga post a question bank beforehand and give you a cheat sheet). Labs aren't very exciting and the field trip seemed like a waste of time though. But you have to take this class as an EPS major, so you should choose Dreger/Manga.

Comment: This was an interesting class. The exams weren't hard, the multiple choice sections could be a little random but the short answers were easy if you studied the review sheet they gave you. Plus you're allowed a sheet of notes. Dreger is helpful and knows the material. I liked this class alot.

Comment: The outdoor labs and field trips made this class enjoyable and interesting, although lectures could be pretty dry sometimes. The tests were easy, no multiple choice and we were given the test bank to study and allowed a cheat sheet. The final exam had multiple choice questions, and those were harder but still manageable but you had to remember a lot of details from the lectures (slides were posted online as a study tool). Despite the sometimes boring lectures, Dreger is very knowledgeable, friendly and easy to approach.

Comment: This class was harder for me than I planned. Be prepared for quizzes! I would study for quizzes and still get C's or D's on them. It requires a lot of memorization of long names for earth-related things and processes.

Comment: Absolutely loved this course. He was very helpful about explaining parts of the seminar I didn't understand and even let me enroll in this course for credit! He's an amazing person, though not the best lecturer (as seen in EPS 50). I especially loved the USGS speakers!
