Comment: The homework assignments require a little bit of exploration but honestly they're not hard to do if you just try! He gives you a sheet of possible exam questions and if you at least use the powerpoints posted online if not actually going to lecture it'll be an easy class! He's genuinely enthusiastic about his subject and I'm glad I took this course

Comment: It's totally okay if you don't go to lectures. Just read through the slides previous to midterms and memorize answers of all questions provided on the study guide it's an easy class to pass. But assignments are graded very strictly and usually takes a lot of time since you need to go on field trips, so not an easy A.

Comment: Pretty chill class. If you're looking to fulfill your Physical breadth requirement then this is a class that is easy. I'm not particularly fond of science classes but this class was enjoyable. Double check your assignments(I would get docked points in my conversions). Any ways, if you do and turn in your assignments on time and study for your exams, you'll do great. Regret not taking it for a letter grade since I did well but hey I still passed. Recommend it!

Comment: Pretty laid-back class and manageable as long as you study very hard for the 2 midterms for 2~3 days and memorize all the details. The homework assignments require you to travel a bit around Berkeley which was very interesting and insightful. The topic of water is hit-or-miss for many people, but I certainly enjoyed it.

Comment: Super easy class. And also somewhat interesting. (If your not a science major that is)

Comment: Pretty easy class. Dietrich obviously knows his stuff, but he teaches in a way that's easy to understand and follow. There are only 4 assignment, and each are worth 10% of your grade, but they're pretty easy to complete. The exams are pretty easy, as long as you do the study guide they give to you before each of the 2 exams.

Comment: In all honesty, this was an interesting class that I would recommend to any first-year students wishing to find an "easy A" class. That said, there is much more work than you would expect from a two-unit class. Attend the exam review sessions and do your homework properly and you should be fine.

Comment: Super easy class. Didn't do any of the assigned readings but they're totally unnecessary anyway.

Comment: Do not need to attend the lectures but attend the review sessions for the midterm and final, which GSI would give you all the answers in the exams. Really easy class as long as you use the review sheet to prepare for the exams. Chill! Assignments are really easy and straightforward, including two interesting field trips.

Comment: Hated the class. There seemed to be a lot of athletes in it too if that says anything about the grading.

Comment: Two professors teach this class together, something that isn't said on the general schedule. Both are interesting and easy to understand, but be prepared for them to talk very quickly and zoom through slides as they try to crunch an hour and a half of material into an hour. The discussion of politics and economics in relation to water were particularly interesting.

Comment: Professor Dietrich is very kind and extremely passionate about the environment. It was really remarkable to see how knowledgeable he is about landslides and other geographic phenomena that nobody really cares much about these days. This was certainly a pretty easy class, but more importantly, it made me more conscious about my water use and was thus very effective.

Comment: Easy 2 unit physical science breadth. The professor is clearly very passionate about what he's teaching (he does research on some of the topics). Possible midterm/final questions are distributed before the exam and there's a review session in which the GSI goes over all the answers. Seriously.

Comment: Most time consuming class I have ever taken. Only take if it's a requirement. Professor Dietrich is almost too experienced and knowledgeable to teach this to those with no experience or background in geomorphology. Meaning most of his lecturing went way over my head, with his extensive bouts of physics equations on the board. But the real challenge is the report writing, 4 including an independent project, all based on observations you see on field trips synthesized with many published articles, mostly Dietrich's. No hw or exams, but very demanding. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, if you have Daniella she will save you.

Comment: The reports were definitely a lot of work, but I've gotten more out of this class than every other class I've taken at Cal. Definitely worth the experience.
