Comment: Hull is a very energetic teacher and does earnestly want students to participate. She finds lot of different material/resources for students to indulge themselves in during lecture, but at times, she does stray into a droning lecture type of style. However, she still does a good job of making lecture an educating experience, adding on to the reading and clarifying/summarizing key concepts. No real exam, and assignment is mainly the fieldwork. She is very open to questions from students and is always approachable.

Comment: I LOVED this class. By far one of the most thought-provoking and inspiring courses I've taken at Berkeley. If you're even slightly interested in teaching or education, I would highly recommend this class. Lots of reading and lots of writing, but the material was so interesting that it was not difficult. Quite time-consuming, though, with the field work hours (45 for the semester). But so worth it! And Hull is incredible. Try to get John Scott as a GSI if you can - he was one of the best GSIs I've ever worked with.

Comment: This was a really amazing class. It's great for Ed Minor students who need to complete field work units as 45 hours of field work are required (so really it's a 4-unit requirement). Attendance was mandatory for class, but the lectures seemed to drag on and the majority of it wasn't as useful (and I aced the class and every assignment). Also to note, Professor Hull did not teach this course - it was all GSIs and the majority of them were first year grad students. I got the one 7th year grad student who was AMAZING and really made the class worth it. There were no tests (final included) but there were 10 field notes (3-8 pages single spaced each), a small group project, and two papers.

Comment: I took this class to clear the AC requirement, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to do the same. There's quite a bit of reading per meeting and the hours required to pass, which is a minimum of 45, is a lot. But other than that, Ed140 was a good experience.

Comment: Laid back class. Do your readings and assignments and you'll be good. The field work aspect of this class was really interesting as well.
