Comment: I would recommend this course to anybody interested in pursuing an IEOR major, but not really to anyone else. Each week, a different IEOR professor comes in and lectures about his research or an interesting topic in IEOR. Only assignment is a take home paper at the end of the semester.

Comment: Goldberg is a very chill professor. The class basically invites a lot of professors and you get introduced to the IEOR major. THere is only one assignment and it is a take home paper.

Comment: Goldberg made this class worth coming to...every single time. Make sure to ask questions, and he'll stop to explain. Don't need to do the readings if you understand material in lecture. Homework and labs are graded on accuracy, so email/Piazza your GSI ahead of time. Use of Pandagrader provides clarity in grading. Grade is highly dependent on the group project, so join a group that's serious about getting results. The GSI will teach you MS Access...but you may find it confusing. Recommended to know some coding for the project (or learn SQL from the labs really well). Overall, a worthwhile class.

Comment: Ken is awesome! The class is very well run, and is very useful in the real world. The labs are terrible, however, and you often don't learn much from doing it. Microsoft Access is hands down the worst software I've ever used, but the GSI is helpful and willing to help our group debugging stuff. Homework is light, and doesn't take much time. For the love of God, choose a group where people know each other fairly well and can make at least one meeting every week. The project is huge, and my group ended up pulling an almost all-nighter before the final presentation to finish it. Not recommended at all, since you may also have a final paper/other project due on the last week of instruction. Overall, take this class! Prior programming experience may help, but you can come into this class with some basic knowledge about sets/truth tables and emerge with a solid A.

Comment: he is a very interesting professor. But for IEOR 170 class, it seemed like the class was poorly organized and run.

Comment: Goldberg is pretty interesting and gives pretty fair exams. The huge project due at the end of a semester is a HUGE HUGE HUGE pain, but the exams are pretty fair and the class itself is interesting. He's not too responsive to emails, so if you have a question, you should probably talk to him after class.
