Comment: Decent class. I learned A LOT. My GSI didn't mess around, and he graded harshly but fairly. Learn how to write well. Lectures got kind of boring but there's some good stuff in them. I enjoyed Ballenger's liberal viewpoint on things but I'm sure not everyone did. Overall, I'm glad I took this class even if I didn't get the best grade (B+). One midterm, one paper, and some other small assignments. CHILLL

Comment: Professor Ballenger is very passionate when it comes to teaching. She likes to use quotes to highlight some main points in lecture. She is very willing to help during office hours if you drop by for a visit. Don't miss a single lecture, keep up with the reading, speak up during discussions, go to office hours (at the very least to GSI's office hours) and you shouldn't find this course too challenging. Reading can be a bit overwhelming but still manageable if you spread them across the week. She tends to rush for the later chapters when she falls behind her planned syllabus, but it shouldn't be too big of a problem if you do the reading and attend office hours.

Comment: Great storyteller with great stories, but only an alright lecturer. Bad habit of skipping stuff for lack of time and then letting us out very early. Interesting/non-mainstream viewpoint on history, great assigned readings, tests weren't too bad.

Comment: Really awful teacher. She is very onesided in her lecture and puts down any student who tries to bring up a countering point. She disses Christians when it is entirely unnecessary. In one lecture she explicitly disrespected Christians 36 times. She gets a lot of facts entirely wrong. When students try to ask questions, she puts them off for the sake of time, then dismisses everyone early without taking the questions. There are many awkward moments in class, but perhaps those are not her fault. Avoid avoid avoid, unless you want to hear a one-sided bitter view of history.

Comment: Professor taught valuable skills and lessons in creating your own research. A key course for students intending to do research in the future or as part of their career.

Comment: She repeats herself over and over and over again with her very one sided story. She would say something, and say "in other words", then repeats the exact same thing. If you want to get help from her, be ready to be talk about whatever she wants to talk about, not the question you are asking, for hours, because she just talks to herself and you wont be able to cut it or leave ever. It was a pain taking this class with her. Avoid at all cost honestly
