Comment: Prof. Ritchie comes from a background of working with material failure and fracture, so he comes with a plethora of background information about and stories related to the material at hand. He stresses what's important, and his exams and assignments do not stray far from what is covered in lecture. He is always happy to answer questions during class.

Comment: Ritchie was a passionate professor with interesting stories and good knowledge about the material. However, his lecturing was pretty poor, which brought down the experience of the course overall. He would go very fast and never slowed down for very long, even when people asked. Furthermore, he writes fairly small, which is a problem when you have 100+ people packed into a room and you're stuck at the back. He also doesn't approach lectures with a straightforward structure, often going off on interesting tangents for two boards before coming back to a list of information, then suddenly breaking off again. And then he did virtually no examples of how to solve problems in class. All of this made for confusing assignments and exams.
