Comment: I had a GSI who did not have a standard accent and was very anal about the student's pronunciation and very nit-picky about hw. :( Fairly easy class- like 100ax. Just a few vocab quizzes and group skit presentations.

Comment: Li laoshi was nicer in second semester, but toward the end she got mean again. The material of second semester was easier and less overwhelming but still pretty difficult. If you're planning on taking this class, be mentally prepared to deal with her...

Comment: Although it said that the teacher is Li, in actuality, you might get a TA, who I got. She was pretty good as a teacher. She was clear, concise and understanding. so FYI, you might not get the actual professor

Comment: Li laoshi is really mean and the material covered in C102 was just really really advanced and difficult. The assignments did not really help and you need to put in many many hours to succeed in this class.

Comment: Assignments are tough, exams are tough, participation is stressful. However, she knows each and every one of her students works hard, and so everyone gets a good grade in the end if they've been attending class! Take her class; but know that you know you have your work cut out for you! Prepare to be spending forever on those written assignments! Try to read the essay beforehand, and at least try to memorize your oral...you will have many. Overall, she was a reasonable, but tough, and certainly rewarding, professor.

Comment: Professor was a GSI with Professor Li overseeing the class, but teaching was excellent. Tests were fair, and professor was very accessible outside of class.

Comment: Li Laoshi is tough but fair. She judges students based on their own ability in the course, not by others' abilities. She takes the time to get to know each individual student, and she really cares about her students.

Comment: At first glance, she seems very strict and unapproachable. In class, she would be unhappy if you are not prepared with the readings. So be sure to do your part! But you'd be so surprised if you visit her during office hours! She is very friendly and helpful, and is willing to help any students who shows effort and commitment. So do drop by for her office hours. Assignments and exams are not too hard if you understand the readings well enough and are able to express your opinions. She grades leniently and gives leeway with assignments sometimes. Do speak up in class, complete assignments on time (or days ahead), visit her during office hours, and you'll surely be on her good side :)

Comment: She is one awesome lady! However, the tests are very hard--the class has a B average on the tests. The assignments are also very tedious. She does curve at the end of the semester though.

Comment: The hardest assignment for this class is definitely the research paper that is to be submitted two or three weeks before finals week but the cool thing is there is no finals. Her assignments and quizzes can be time consuming and challenging. I recall that there's assignment almost every week; it could be a group presentation this week, and a written assignment the next, and a quiz the next. It's not an easy class. You gotta put in effort to get an A for this class. But as long as you do your assignments, go to class diligently, attend her office hours, you'll be fine. Li laoshi really cares about her students :)

Comment: Took 111 and 112 with li lao shi and she is an awesome professor. She cares a lot about her students and wants everyone to do well in chinese not only in a classroom but also outside - which is why she makes us to the thesis paper, the debates, and the presentations. You should always do the readings on time and know all the vocabs - which may seem like a pain but is kind of your responsibility as the student - and you'll do well on the homework and the exams. She grades really leniently so there is no reason for you to do extremely bad. All in all a great class.

Comment: Heard a lot of stories about Li and wasn't sure what to expect, but she turned out to be a great teacher. You get used to her sarcasm and she really just wants everyone to reach their full potential. Homework is pretty time consuming and I was always pressed for time on tests.
