Comment: He gives lectures much slooooower than Prof. Packard. It is much easier to understand the concept in his lecture. Also, his lecture is funny too.

Comment: The slower of the two lecturers. He is quite enthusiastic about MATLAB and drops hints about midterm problems. I'll just say that I glad that E7 is over. The final...well, I don't know what to make of it.

Comment: Assignments are hard. Exams are really easy. Honestly this class is overrated.

Comment: The enthusiasm was definitely there, and the lecture basically covered what came up in the midterm and the final. The assignments are hard, but they make you reapply what you learned in new problems. The electronic midterm was tried once; the instructors and TA's decided to go back to the written exam because it was so much hassle.

Comment: Class was a bit of a mess. On the other hand assignments were about the right difficulty and seemed to really get at what you were supposed to know. Didn't really seem to know what he was talking about though.

Comment: Overall, disappointing teacher. Lectures were gone over too quickly with material oversimplified compared to hw and exams. Discussions were pretty much useless. And Horowitz is not helpful at all. I remember for the electronic midterm we had to download it from bspace, and mine wasn't working. He simply said I clicked the wrong thing when there was only one thing to download!

Comment: Easily one of the worst professors I've had while at Berkeley. He and Frenklach co-taught E7, and by taught, I mean they showed up and presented a completely useless PowerPoint and then gave midterms with material out of nowhere. The electronic midterm was extremely unfair because while 60/400 people got 100's, 60/400 people also got 0's. Although the make-up midterm had an average of about 32/60, because of the 100's, the combined average on which final grades are based was a 41/60 (i.e. the class is curved to a Gaussian distribution when the MT scores weren't Gaussian and were completely skewed). Attending lecture never helped me because the code was entirely oversimplified compared to the lab assignments and they went so fast that absorbing the information quickly enough was impossible. Discussion section was also useless because they'd just go over the next week's lab and give no hints besides saying, "This is what you must do. I won't give you the answers."

Comment: Ahh what can I say about E7 and Professor Horowitz? Well, the class and he are among my favorites at Berkeley so far. He's pretty funny and clear as well. The homework (labs) are like puzzles in that they can require some creativity. You've got to know the commands inside and out first of all. But to do the homework (without running to the GSI after 5 minutes of being stumped), you've got to apply some of that brainteaser-mindedness. All in all, the homework is one of the most fun I've had (second only to calculus hehe). Exams, though, are trickier with the time limit. Also, having to be especially creative with the code to get it into one line is a skill not emphasized on the homework. Overall a fun class that goes above and beyond with applications in both the homework and the exams

Comment: Took this with Horowitz and Packard but Horowitz did most of the teaching. Exams were not really representative of the homework at all. Exams were long and difficult but the curve saved me in the end.

Comment: Class was ok. Homework was ridiculously hard, and not representative of the exams. Horowitz is a good lecturer and explains things fairly well, despite his thick Spanish accent. He's occasionally funny, too. Don't take the course unless you really need to.

Comment: Horowitz is a really nice guy with a funny accent. He tries to be helpful, and does pretty well during office hours, but his lectures are useless. Midterms and finals were fair, and the assignments (which are worth a lot) were useful.

Comment: One of two professors who taught the course that semester. I never really went to class because the powerpoints were all posted and the GSI's were essential in getting the assignments done. Overall E7 is a very important class and it is taught well. There were no surprises on the tests and the assignments were a little long but very doable with help from the GSI's.

Comment: I was sorely disappointed by this class in general. Control theory was something I'd never encountered before, and sounded like an exciting branch of math with wide applicability. But ME 132 ended up to be a lot of fiddling around with math with little true application or intuition. This was in part due to Professor Horowitz, whose lectures were disorganized and sometimes incoherent or incorrect. The course reader used every semester wasn't too much help, either. What's more, the problem sets in this class were often terrible. We only had seven, but they included a monstrosity with 27 graphs and some >8-hour beasts. Start early... and try to finish. The non-MATLAB problems in the homework were pretty important for exams. I haven't given up trying to understand this stuff. I've heard that ME C134/EE C128 is the real introduction to control engineering, so that's where I'm headed next...

Comment: I hate this man. His homework are ridiculously long, literally like E7 on crack. His tests are somewhat easy and the curve is never generous (a lot of people get 100%). He makes you do long and tedious problems in this class and repeats the same thing over and over again. He is somewhat enthusiastic, and can be funny at times...

Comment: -exams can either be really easy or really hard -assignments take f***ing forever -he repeats the same thing like 500x in lecture and spends like the first half of each lecture repeating the last lecture
