Comment: Took this during Summer and the pace was ridiculously fast-- this class will be your life if you take it during Summer Sessions. However, I did learn a lot and in the end I'm glad that I took the course with him. His tests are very fair, and the staff was very helpful. I had Dennis Rong as my TA and he was great.

Comment: He's alright. He's cool and all but not that informative as a teacher. His assignments are good and test everything and have some scope for creativity

Comment: My favorite class at Berkeley thus far. Even though it was Courtney's first time teaching, he was extremely knowledgeable and clear in lecture. Did an excellent job being very fair in exams and supplementing lecture with labs. Definitely recommend.

Comment: Considering that he is not actually a professor, he is actually doing quite well as a lecturer for the university. He gives what he needs to in lecture and he can lecture well. The setup of the rest of the course though can be a tad annoying

Comment: AMAZING LECTURER! He's very clear and to-the-point. Plus he knows how to connect with students, since he's a recent graduate from Cal. Projects were very time-consuming, however exams were very fair, and the questions were hilarious! Go to office hours!

Comment: I think it's safe to say that most of the people who sign up for the class have a genuine interest in at least some of the topics that are covered; however, the class is set up in a way that will make you loathe your time spent doing work for it. Lectures were boring, labs were tedious and not all that helpful (they weren't really labs, but instead were long worksheets), and the GSIs my semester were pretty bad. The grading was nitpicky (and downright wrong in a lot of circumstances, though they refused to change grades when shown their errors). Prof Wang seemed like a nice guy, but in general, he was not a very good professor. His lectures were sloppy, and most of the time was spent by him directly reading what was on his mediocre PowerPoint slides. The two mandatory field trips may seem like a plus, but both were spent looking at rocks and scribbling down notes to ensure that we could complete the required reports. They were not fun whatsoever, and the first one took nearly 12 hours on a Saturday (before 8am until 7:15pm). Take this class if you absolutely have to, but if there's an option that sounds better, go for it. Granted, there's not much homework (or really not any homework) for EPS 50 except for reading and completing your lab worksheets if you couldn't during lab time, but the class is just a pain in general. Grading is not as easy as it seems by looking at the old grade distributions. They're not as friendly recently, and to do well, you're gonna have to do a lot of tedious memorization and you will almost certainly NOT enjoy it (unless you really really love rocks so much that you can ignore the awful way the class is run).

Comment: A good, knowledgeable professor. He knows how to manipulate powerpoint well, so instead of walls of text, his slides are filled with pictures and diagrams. He lectures very clearly, and does his best to give his students a good introduction to geology and the scientific processes behind it. He can be a bit slow lecturing at times though, and he can be a bit eccentric at times.

Comment: He was an awesome professor. He put all of the information on his slides, and was clear about what you needed to know and did not need to know for the exam. His exam was very straightforward.
