Comment: good lecturer, but seemed to have an aversion to using calculus to solve problems. midterms were fairly easy, as long as you went to lecture.

Comment: Lanzara is difficult to understand and the labs for this class are pointless. At least the exams are fair and the gsi's tend to be fairly helpful.

Comment: Very fair, but difficult exams. Very good demos (firing stuff at monkies in the air = cool). Mastering physics sucks though...

Comment: Not fun. That is all. Exams are crap, per usual with Physics 7A. She's okay, but not really humorous or enthusiastic.

Comment: The professor is enthusiastic about the class and understands the material really well. Pay attention during lecture as midterm and final questions came from in lecture examples.

Comment: I really enjoyed taking 7B with Lanzara. I felt like she was a very clear and organized lecturer, and she is really approachable. I think I came out of the class with a very well-developed understanding of the basic concepts the class is meant to cover.

Comment: Totally awesome! She is very passionate in teaching and excellent in explaining tough concepts. Her assignments are reasonable in amount and helpful for students to master physics.

Comment: Lanzara definitely deserves a higher rating. She was a clear lecturer (after getting used to her Italian accent, which shouldn't be any problem). In fact, I think her lectures were more interesting and encouraging than Spelio's, who also taught 7B this semester. She had almost everything you needed to know in the book laid out in lectures, but reading beforehand always helps. Mastering physics was okay... Her exams were pretty doable and I don't think the averages actually reflected the difficulties of them (except the first midterm... Thermo stuff is always hard to understand). Didn't attend too many office hours, but she was really patient to answer questions during the breaks in lectures so I assume she did the same during office hours. Not a bad choice for 7B. Just do the practice exams and you will be solid.

Comment: I loved her! She's so sweet, helpful, understanding. Her lectures are interesting. She explains in simple language and you can follow her thinking because ideas flow very naturally. Take her.

Comment: As a lecturer, Lanzara was not very effective. Though there were some cool demos, her lectures consists of mostly theory which one could find in the book (resulting in me skipping lectures altogether). The exams are technically fair, but they were brutal (a mean of 30/100 on the second midterm). On the content itself, there's a lot of theory that we can prove by seeing it in action. The labs did that well, though the equipment was mostly outdated. Discussions were helpful to me, but that depends on the GSI.

Comment: Lanzara seems fairly hit-or-miss. While she's clearly very enthusiastic about the subject, and the mastering physics work is usually a cakewalk, the exams varied drastically in difficulty, and the second midterm had a curve that was ridiculously low, even by Berkeley's standards. It didn't help that the lectures seemed hit-or-miss as well, with some feeling very rushed. I'm not sure that I would necessarily recommend Lanzara as a professor, but, all in all, she wasn't awful.

Comment: Great professor! Quite funny, a good class. Exams were mostly fair, but lacked consistency. Assignments and labs straightforward. A lot of concepts but was still quite interesting. She has quite a thick Italian accent but it wasn't difficult to understand her.

Comment: Do. Not. Take. She's an awful professor, if you care about learning the material. Her board work is atrocious. Look away for 10 seconds, I guarantee you'll be lost. She spends the first hour of lecture going over the previous 3 lectures, and rushed through "teaching new material", so each new lesson is never explained clearly. She genuinely cannot teach. She has an incredibly thick Italian accent and monotone voice, which means that falling asleep is inevitable. Also, 1st midterm was conceptually reasonable, but worded so poorly the GSI's were climbing through the seats throughout the entire exam period to answer questions. Second midterm was atrocious with a 33% average. The multiple part questions started with 2 parts of expected/reasonable questions and 3 parts of "WHAT!?" questions. Final was in between, but there was a question on eddy currents that she explicitly did not list as a section that would be covered on the final. Her only redeeming quality is that she cares about her students. She genuinely wants to improve on teaching, but she really just is awful at it. She does say she individually raise grades based on improvement though, which is nice.

Comment: Lanzara was a good professor and explained concepts clearly and always stopped to answer questions. Assignments were pretty standard-- Mastering Physics. Her exams kind of bothered me. She didn't write any of her own questions so they weren't exactly worded the way we were used to seeing them. A bit of advice: Look at her old midterms and search the questions word for word on google, you're likely to find where she took them from as well as other possible questions.

Comment: Assignments in physics are standard, always mastering physics. Her midterms all seemed doable, but rather hard at the same time. Her second midterm was rather depressing with an average of 30, but oh well all good. Good professor nonetheless, she did know what she was talking about and offered to help students. Her research is also pretty interesting!

Comment: Lanzara is very enthusiastic about teaching. Homework was all on masteringphysics. There were some prelab questions that were challenging at times. Exams were not very easy, but not impossible. It's also pretty easy to fall asleep listening to her lecture though, not exactly sure why.

Comment: Lanzara's demos on magnetism were awesome...especially the ones for Faraday's law. Anyways, the exams are fair - do practice problems from the review sessions and previous midterms and you'll be fine. I learned the most from working through workbook problems in discussion. Lanzara adjusted the final after the second midterm (the average score was a 30) so it was doable.
