Comment: Well, he knows what he is teaching!! He is really intelligent. The only problem is that although he gives tips on how to write the papers, they aren't always practical. you will understand what he wants, but won't know how to bring it in your paper. And he is annoying because he won't discuss anything on email etc, so you have to use his office hours ( they will definitely help you). He is considerate and is flexible on absences and assignment extensions, you just have to talk to him. If it helps, he was into the Occupy Oakland thing that semester, so he's quite an active person. It might piss some people off because that caused him to neglect the class a bit. In general, if you are persistent in office hours, you will learn a lot and that will help you!

Comment: This professor is awesome! Our class topic was "Short Stories from Around the World" and it was great! The short stories were easy and fun to read but there was also a lot to them that you could write about. We had 5 diagnostic essays (which were 1-2 pages, no thesis, sort of hard to write), 2 argumentative essays (4-6 pages, both of which you could revise), and a research paper (5-7 pages and 1-2 page research summary). The research paper wasn't bad, just a regular old argumentative that doesn't have to use the research you found if it doesn't better your argument. Bady is really cool, intelligent, nice, understanding, and flexible about deadlines as long as you talk to him about it before the paper is due (he'll give you a couple extra days if you need it). You get 1 free week extension (I recommend using it on the second argumentative paper). He really loves the subject matter and gets the class engaged. He doesn't give you any guidelines about how to write you papers, which was frustrating at first, but it really helps you see the flaws in your writing that need to be fixed, and his comments help you learn to fix them. Because of his class, my writing has vastly improved. I worked really hard in this class and it paid off (I got an A). This class has been one of my favorite classes here at Cal, so if you can you should take this class with Bady. :]

Comment: Knows what he's talking about, but kind of vague in his expectations of students!

Comment: Quite a bit of reading, but very manageable if responsible. Very fair when it comes to grading. As long as you show improvement, he will be happy. He also has a lot of experience in his expertise.

Comment: I can feel a lot of enthusiasm coming from professor Bady, but at the same time, I don't feel much productivity coming along due to the sheer content of the course. We focus too much on one-track topics as opposed to more holistic topics.
