MATH 32 (Spring 2011)

Comment: Rennet is too competent to be just a GSI. He lectures clearly, makes sure you understand the material, and is so helpful during office hours. The best part about him, other than being Canadian, is that he understands everyone has their own pace when it comes to math, yet he will challenge you to go beyond a basic understanding of the material. The exams are NOT easy, but they are fair and you will walk away from this class feeling like you've learned a lot. That being said, the class isn't necessary. The material in 1A barely requires 32, and 16A is forgiving enough for not knowing precalc. Trig is almost useless beyond 32. Alex couldn't stress this notion enough: don't be afraid of math, and don't be afraid to push yourself.

Comment: Exams really tested what you knew and understood from lectures - originally had no homework but he was assigned a reader so we had weekly HW assignments of about 3 Qs. Fair, friendly, and witty instructor. He's Canadian, come on!

Comment: Alex is a very helpful teacher. He gives good notes and asks students if they need any clarification. Although homework is not collected, I highly recommend doing them since you get quizzed weekly.

Comment: Alex is a sweet guy that means well. He is enthusiastic when it comes to lectures and always goes out of his way to ask students during lecture if they don't understand something. He is easily approachable and has a humorous attitude. His midterm so far was decent, nothing you could not do if you payed attention. Stay on top of the homework especially since you are quizzed every monday by the GSI. My GSI (Kelty) was very helpful though. Even if you haven't really taken Pre-Calculus in a while, Alex briefly tries to introduce it to you before getting into it. Overall he's pretty good.

Comment: He's a very amiable and approachable instructor and has good interaction with students during lecture. His lectures are clear and organized and follow the format of the book well. He gives homework assignments, but they are for the students' benefit and are never collected or turned in for grades other than in rare exceptions (he claims, it hasn't happened yet this class.)

Comment: He's a GSI, so he is very nice and approachable. Exams and quizzes were easy enough, and although you don't have many options when it comes to pre-calculus anyway (I think they only offer one section), I would recommend him. I ended up with an A+ and can't say I studied too hard, so it's very do-able.
