Comment: I found DeVries' lectures and readings very interesting. The reading can be heavy with about 100 pages per week but that's expected out of a history course. His exams are long but allows you flexibility in your answers so you can show what you know and studied for.
DeVries is very knowledgeable of the material and has a few cheesy jokes up his sleeves, which makes this course worthwhile.
HISTORY 159B (Fall 2011)
Comment: Don't take if you're not forced to take. You can easily fall asleep in Devries' class. His powerpoint is pointless because most of the "substance" that should be taken away from lecture is from his exceptionally monotonic lecture. He tried his best to get across to his students but... he just fails.
