Comment: A lot of material thrown in which can be good and bad. The lectures were off of powerpoint slides and often just summarized parts of the reading (around 200 pages per week).
CY PLAN 118AC (Spring 2012)
Comment: The material covered is really interesting - the professor however, reads off powerpoint presentations. You pretty much spend the entire hour and a half dictating what she says - unless you have some ungodly capacity to absorb bundles of information being thrown at you every minute. She gave a fair warning on the first day - if you don't like reading, don't take the class. There was on average 175-225 pages of reading every lecture (one for Monday, one for Wednesday), and attempting to retain 400 pages worth of information is pretty hard. Although I could see how some could enjoy this class, I personally came away with the feeling that they essentially bored me out of enjoying and understanding the material. There was so much information to memorize that I stopped caring about why it was even important. It became impossible to synthesize arguments or muster enthusiasm when the final research paper was due. If you're into city planning by all means take it, but if you're just looking for an AC credit, there are definitely easier options out there.
