Comment: If you go to the lectures and take some notes, you will be able to do well on the two midterms and final. There are some readings and a couple of projects (including a visit to the entomology museum in VLSB) which aren't too bad.

Comment: Just attend lecture, and pay attention in class and you will be fine. The lecture slides were put online and the tests were from the lecture slide. The class covers a good amount of material so the tests will require you to learn a lot of material.

Comment: Kip is rad! Not hard to ace this class, just go to lecture and pay attention at least 75% of the time. He gives you every possible resource to get an A, exams are based completely on his lectures and he gives you some questions in advance. Talk to Kip, he's hella down to earth and is just genuinely excited about entomology...he's definitely the biggest motivation I had to get into the field. Very few assignments and they're easy. I'm not artistic whatsoever but I put in a few hours of effort and got an A on the art project. Take this class!

Comment: If your looking to finish off the Biological Sciences breadth with an easy A, this is the class to take. Really interesting outlook on entomology and lectures are normally interesting. Professor Kip gives out lecture summary outlines on Bspace and also puts up the PowerPoints he makes for lecture, but to really do well on his exam, take notes during class. Studying only the lecture summary outlines will not help you get the A, but if you study the outlines and the notes you take in class, the exams, while a bit challenging, are not too difficult to get an A in. But Kip does give out a ton of extra credit and 2 easy projects that nearly everyone does real well on that boost up your grade. The final is extremely simple because you are given the multiple choice and possible essay questions ahead of time ensuring many A's on the final. Overall, an easy and fun class recommended for all to take.

Comment: Fun class! The assignments were simple and fun, and the material was surprisingly interesting even though I'm not fond of insects. People who fear insects, beware - one of the assignments has you observing an actual insect, so try to find a friendly critter! I also had fun going to the California Academy of Sciences for one of the assignments!

Comment: I really enjoyed the hollistic coverage of everything related to insects. The assignments really encouraged creativity and made me feel the most engaged I've felt at Berkeley. It's awesome that you can get extra credit, but the downside is that you need 100% to get an A+. Plenty of room for fun. Enjoy! :]

Comment: I am not a science major in the least, but I found this course very interesting. Having said that, I also found it challenging (the exams). To be fair, I did not put my FULL effort into this class (took it to get out of the Biological Science breadth) but still, I studied for the exams and did not do terrifically. There are three assignments, all of which are very, very easy (everyone gets 100 pretty much). Despite the exams, I would still recommend this course for those looking for a not super sciencey way to get out of the BS breadth. And Kip is awesome.

Comment: Tests aren't very hard and follow his lecture notes pretty faithfully. Attend lecture regularly and you're guaranteed an A. Prof. Kipling is very enthusiastic about this subject, but he isn't the nicest guy so don't be surprised if he behaves coldly towards you if you go in for office hours.

Comment: I took this class for a breadth because I was promised to textbook, midterm, or final. I wasn't prepared for the huge amount of work that came with this though. The professor gives out lots of weekly assignments. That's partly my fault - I slacked so I had to work harder to do better later in the course. One thing though - this professor is ultra boring. The professor just droned on and on in lecture (I have a limited science background). Another WARNING: This class requires tons of group work. If you don't like that, just stay away from this class.

Comment: Greatly enjoyed this class and didn't realize how interested I am in insects! I really enjoyed most of the assignments and the lectures. Professor Will and the GSIs were very enthusiastic and that was a lot of fun. However, while this class has no midterms or finals, a lot of the work is done in groups, which really sucked because many people took this class as a breadth requirement and didn't care about any of the work. However, this class is a really awesome introduction to insects and does cover a lot of great material. I highly recommend it for the Biological Sciences breadth or just for fun!
