Comment: One of the best classes I've taken (I'm only a freshman though, so best class out of the ten I've taken lol). Professor Iles is so great at teaching, he opens up the class to discussions all the time and makes for a very captivating and interesting class. GSI's and Professor is always super helpful and open to questions and suggestions. Professor Iles even gave us an extension for our final paper! They are very accommodating to students and make the class a super open space for discussion - great intro class, great teacher, highly recommended!

Comment: Great class, great professor. Professor Iles is so enthusiastic and nice and after the first couple lectures, his teaching style starts to feel natural. The assignments were fair, the midterm and final were doable, the GSIs were really helpful, and overall, I feel like I came out of this class having not only learned a lot but actually feeling like I will remember everything I learned, which I can't say for many of my classes.

Comment: Professor Iles is an amazing person, but it was hard for me to learn with this lecturing style. Essentially, the professor typed out the entire lecture monologue and a GSI read page after page. It's like story-time but for college students learning about environmental law. Course material would probably have been very interesting if I was into politics and lawmaking, but I'm not really. Assignments were free choice (usually got to pick the topic for essays or pick from given prompts).

Comment: This was an awesome class. It was a bit slow in the beginning but I learned so much by the end. The assignments were fairly easy and the GSI's were great. The class was basically comprised of three paper assignments, a midterm, and the final.

Comment: Professor Iles is really enthusiastic and passionate about this class. Though he can't talk, communication was never a problem. If you are taking this class, be prepared to do a LOT of writing. We wrote 3 research papers (5-7 pages) and 2 more research papers for our final. The midterm was relatively straightforward as long as you studied the study guide. The final was NOT EASY because you had 5 days to write close to 10-12 pages (2 separate research papers). Grading was also somewhat arbitrary on papers, but that is natural. Overall, they (being Professor Iles and Kendra, the GSI who read the lecture notes) are really helpful and want you to succeed!

Comment: Fairly easy assignments and not that many. Didn't do readings but am doing well in the class. But still, the readings are interesting for the most part.

Comment: Readings were interesting, but you can skim through them. Research papers seem like a hassle at the beginning of the semester, but they were pretty interesting... you actually learn new things from them :)! They were graded leniently as long as you follow the prompt. I heard the midterm was a bit challenging, so my recommendation would be to opt for the 15-pg research paper instead. Took with Shannon Fiala and she was pretty awesome. Recommended!
