Comment: An incredibly thought provoking class that catalyzed my interest in social justice, policy development, and economic factors in relation to ecological issues. Extremely qualified/intelligent/enthusiastic professor-- yes this class requires quite a bit of reading but Peluso explains those difficult concepts in incredible detail during lecture. honestly it got slow during lecture at times because she would drill the same concepts over and over, but they were crucial to paper writing and critical analysis for exams. I didn't do very well in this class because I didn't take advantage of the extremely smart/helpful GSIs and I was too intimidated of Peluso (she does martial arts and kicks ass ) to talk with her. it's been a year since I took this class and if I could take it again now I would. take this class if you are interested in the dichotomy between the profit driven way we police the environment today and the traditional local knowledge that has governed land in the past.

Comment: I'm from the landscape department, and found this class to be super helpful to my way of thinking about design. Peluso really puts her heart and soul into teaching this class, and it shows. All of her lectures are engaging and eye-opening, and I do not think anyone leaves without having changed some aspect of their way of thinking. Assignments and exams are super easy - as long as you make an effort to understand the concepts, anyone should do fine.

Comment: If you are not a part of the ESPM or CNR major/college RUN AWAY! This course is very theoretical and hard to change your style of thinking within just one semester. Not only me, but other non ESPM majors have a hard time with this course. Start with something else; it is not an intro!

Comment: This class was so boring and such a waste of my time. I thought that this class was going to be way more interesting. The assignments are super easy and it is really easy to get a good grade. A lot of people don't get good grades but honestly I did minimal work and managed to get way better grades then many others in the class. Nancy is very enthusiastic about the subject but honestly if you are anything other than an ESPM major steer clear of this class. I'm an MCB major and everytime I was in class I wanted to die.
