Comment: I took it for my AC, and it didn't end very well. I got a B. However, if you are lazy, this is the class/ professor you are looking for. One twitter post per week, about 3 essays, and one website project . Everything is easy. 2 exams, 20% each. If you want to do P/NP, go for it. Boring lecture/ important attendance. 4 units feel like a 2. you decide.

Comment: The professor is very enthusiastic about the topic. The GSI is very helpful if you attend his/her office hour. There is not much homework. There is about three short response paper and the GSI is not harsh grader. The professor always have interesting articles written by him. The midterm is fair. If you attend the lectures and read the required books then you should be fine. There are a lot of extra credit opportunity :D Great class overall.

Comment: This guy was very passionate about what he teaches, has a history of activism. Some people found him boring but I could relate to a lot of what he says about modern society. Also one of the easiest classes I have took. Reading is basically optional and the exams are so easy.

Comment: He has character. When he lectures he throws in humor here and there. There were no daily/weekly assignments. He says reading is mandatory, but I know people who did not read and did well. He does not make an outline of his lecture so you have to pay attention. If you did not read, but do pay attention then you pretty much have at least an A- on the midterm and final. There was a project in which we had to go to a local mosque and inquire about its history. Save yourself a headache and knock out that assignment early. Other than that I would say it's a decent to good class.

Comment: Exams are based on lecture material and readings, so it's important to take good notes in class.

Comment: A really interesting class, but it's really hard to take notes because the lecture is all over the place. Exams have some stuff not covered in lecture. Professor Bazian is really interesting (especially if we got off topic and talked about current issues). Not too much homework and grade isn't just based on tests (which is good because tests aren't exactly easy).

Comment: Only negative to this class was sometimes lectures got boring and theres almost no structure to the class and you were left to basically guess your grade at the end. Overall it wasnt difficult basically one final paper, a midterm and final to determine your grade. attendance is mandatory though as the gsi's pass around sign in sheets overall really interesting to hear things america somewhat censors since after all the focus of the class is muslims in america

Comment: The class was alright. I took it to fulfill my AC requirement. It wasn't a hard class. The readings weren't all that interesting and we never really got to the part of the class I thought would be fun to learn about. The final project where we interviewed a representative of a Mosque and wrote a group paper was interesting and I kinda enjoyed it.

Comment: Bazian is incredibly intelligent. I learned so much in his course. He is a great lecturer, and he also brought in cool guest speakers. My recommendations to do well: take copious notes in lecture and study them, form a large study group to summarize all the readings that will appear on the exams, do any extra credit opportunities, and don't assume you'll do well in the course. Some students enter the course thinking it will be an easy A, but they do less than a minimum amount of studying for the exams. His exams are very reasonable if you actually study what he tells you to.

Comment: He's a great lecturer. So far he's taught me a lot of things about Islamophobia and Orientalism, so I love attending his class. There aren't a lot of assignments, but there is a lot of reading that I'm constantly falling behind on. He offers nearly zero guidance on the midterm exam, and creates midterms that are impossible to finish during the allotted time. It doesn't help that the GSIs for the course were rude when addressing the students.

Comment: This class is pretty simple if you go to lecture and pay attention. I personally read the assigned reading, but you can easily get an A or B by simply showing up to lecture every week. I really liked the lectures and enjoyed Dr.Bazian's sense of humor. The tests are to the point and straight forward.

Comment: Great professor. Loved his lectures; section not so much (almost unnecessary). Exams were a little bit difficult; review sheets barely helped but I still ended up with an A. Basic breakdown of the class: Two midterms, one final essay, and one final. Depending on which GSI you have, "weekly" quizzes ("weekly in quotations since we were supposed to have quizzes every section meeting, but our GSI always came in late)
