Comment: Mark is awesome. I thought all Cal Teachers would be like this, but after taking another UGIS class, I really got to appreciate the awesome of Mark. He is very laid back, and his reading assignments are sparse and short. His daughter is adorable too. The tips and tricks he gives you to help maintain the control of the classroom is really effective. One downside to Mark is, he will put you on the spot sometime or another because the class is so small. You will be called on, so be prepared to participate. My middle school was such a great experience for me. I loved going with my partner and just witnessing all the children in action.

Comment: Great class, got to spend time teaching at a local middle school. Mark provided a lot of guidance and advice. Small class. Got $300 bucks for taking it. Learned a lot about the education system and the art of teaching in class discussions. Little on the long side. Assignments are super straight forward

Comment: Not quite sure how to rate Mark. On one hand, he is incredibly personable and open, always willing to help wherever he can. On the other, this class is shoddily organized, with variable due dates and an unclear curriculum pattern. Not all concepts felt connected to each other. Readings are wholly unused. In short, if you are on your path to being a good teacher, you'll enjoy showing off your skills here. If you need remediation on the basics in the classroom, you might fall behind.

Comment: This is a required class for the CalTeach minor, those who intend to be math and science teachers. If you don't like group work, you won't like this class. It is designed to make you work with every other member of the class on something at least once. For a class designed to teach people how to be teachers, I found it to be vague and confusing. The rumor was that everybody who did all of the work would get an A. I did not find that to be the case.
