Comment: No exams - only quizzes, which make or break your grade (1/3 of the class, the other 2/3 being evenly split between hw and project). Both Patterson and Fox taught this course (the ratings should be identical but nj uses a slide scale system). The hw's were fairly straightforward, with the exception of one or two. None of them required much work, although to do the hw "right" you would need to put in more time (the bare minimum for full credit submission was often just a few lines) The project is entirely dependent on your group and client. I can't stress how important it is to choose a group you can work well with (and hopefully rely on). Having competent group members goes a long way (3/4 of my group members had the magic ability of breaking any code they touched), but being able to communicate quickly and efficiently is even more important! Note on quizzes: At least within my group, it seemed that attending lecture was pretty useful for understanding the material. You can certainly get by with just reading the book or lecture slides, but getting an A will be harder.

Comment: a Fraction of cs169 teaches about good web technologies, but mostly its about software organization, testing, pair programming, deisgn patterns, refactoring code, etc etc (totaly not worth taking a class on, as you can learn all this in a few weeks during an internship)
