Comment: Tough homework problems that was totally different from the midterm and final. Going to class was useless because you could never understand what he's trying to teach, you're better off studying the material on your own. Really generous curve, cracks jokes once in a while to lighten the mood.

Comment: Nice professor, tries very hard to teach and give reasonable number of problems for homework. Exams come with bonus questions and are not very difficult. (Many people do score about about full marks)

Comment: Professor is a real nice guy and he tries hard, but it doesn't matter if you can't communicate your ideas. It's impossible to read his handwriting and follow what he says in lecture. I would not be passing if it weren't for the nice GSI and the easy exams.

Comment: He goes over homework in class, so lots of people ended up copying homework from the blackboard the day they were due. He seems really interested in the class topic, and is a sweet old man, but it's really hard to understand him because he speaks so softly. The material definitely is not easy either.

Comment: Prof Klass is a funny guy but his lectures aren't very good. He lectures with transparencies and an overhead projector but because he has trouble writing, it can be very hard to understand his handwriting. Prof Klass's class uses the HoelPortStone (HPS) Probability book instead of the Pitman Probability book like most of the other stat134 classes. The HPS book is very technical and much harder to understand than the Pitman book but the material covered in both books are pretty much the same, but in different order. IMO, it's better to use the Pitman book for studying. Homework is assigned from the HPS book and can be quite hard since lectures aren't too helpful. Prof Klass usually goes through the homework questions the day it is due so that helps a lot. 1 midterm and 1 final. Midterm is out of 100 with an additional 25 bonus points so it's possible to get 125 points. 5 questions of 25 points each, the highest 4 count towards your score, and 2 bonus questions for 25 points. About 40% of the class got more than 100 on the midterm and cutoff for an A- on the midterm was about 90%. The prof says people usually do worse on the final. The midterm is mostly word problems, and much easier than the homework. Final out of 200, with an additional 40 bonus points. 9 questions, 8 highest count towards your score, 2 bonus qns worth 20 each. Questions on final are harder than the midterm since the material itself is harder. Midterm covers discrete random variables while the final includes continuous random vars as well.
